SPECIAL MEETING
MARCH 7,1985
The special meeting of the City Council of the City of Apache Junction,
Arizona,was held on March 7,1985,at the Apache Junction City Council Chambers
pursuant to the notice required by law.
CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Clarke called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m.

)Mayor Clarke opened the hearing to
Director of Planning Chuck Newcomer
briefed the Council on the amendments to the Zoning Ordinance and explained
that the previously approved amendment in Ordinance No.332,were included,and
that this proposed ordinance had been published and posted pursuant to State Law.
Mayor Clarke asked i f there was any-
one who wished to speak in favor of or in opposition to the amendments.
Ms Midge Conway addressed the Council
in objection to the proposed ordinance in relation to amendments proposed by
the Zoning Re -Write Committee,of which she was a member.
City Manager Michael J.McNulty
answered Ms Conway's questions and pointed out the reasons for the various
amendments.
Councilman Baljo added to Mr.McNulty's
comments.
Mr.Jim Bakkedahl pointed out
different areas that had zonings he disagreed with.
Mr.Keith Stachar addressed the
Council in objection to zonings in various areas of the City,and suggested
different methods of zoning.
Mayor Clarke asked i f there was
anyone who wished to address the Council,.There'being no-one else wishing
to speak,Mayor Clarke calle&upon the Director of Planning for recommendations.
Mr.Newcomer stated that the Planning
staff recommended approval of the ordinance with three amendments,and that the
Planning and Zoning Commission also recommended approval with four amendments,
the fourth being the hours of operation allowed in certain zones.
Mayor'Clarke closed the hearing to
the public.
Councilman Shanks MOVED THAT
ORDINANCE NO.350,BE READ BY TITLE ONLY WITH THE EMERGENCY CLAUSE AND THE
READING OF THE ENTIRE ORDINANCE BE WAIVED.
Councilman Taylor seconded the
motion.
VOTE:Unanimous
The motion carried.
Mayor Clarke called upon the City
Clerk to read Ordinance No.350,by title only with the emergency clause.

ORDINANCE NO.71 AND ALL AMENDMENTS THERETO AND ADOPTING BY REFERENCE A NEW
APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,ZONING ORDINANCE BY ADDING JO THE CITY CODE OF APACHE
JUNCTION,ARIZONA,VOLUME I I LAND DEVELOPMENT CODE A NEW CHAPTER 1 ENTITLED
APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,ZONING ORDINANCE;REPEALING ANY CONFLICTING
PROVISIONS;PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY;PROVIDING FOR PENALTIES;AND DECLARING
AN EMERGENCY.
Councilman Baljo MOVED THAT

ORDINANCE;REPEALING ANY CONFLICTING PROVISIONS;PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY;
PROVIDING FOR PENALTIES;AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY,INCLUDING THE ZONING
DISTRICT MAP BY REFERENCE,WITH -THE FOLLOWING AMENDMENTS,BE APPROVED AND
ADOPTED:
1.THE TEXT OF C-1 AND C-3 COMMERCIAL ZONING DISTRICT REGULATIONS TO BE
AMENDED TO CONFORM WITH THE REGULATION AS ADOPTED BY ORDINANCE NO.332.
2.SECTION 16.0406 (3)TO READ,"MAXIMUM FLOOR AREA PER BUSINESS SHALL
BE 4,000 SQUARE FEET."
3.ZONING DISTRICT MAP TO INDICATE CR-2 CLASSIFICATION FOR THE PROPERTY
LOCATED AT:
WEST OF THE NORTHEASTI OF THE NORTHEAST i OF THE NORTHEAST i OF
THE NORTHWEST i OF SECTION 22,TOWNSHIP 1 NORTH,RANGE 8 EAST,GILA
AND SALT RIVER BASE AND MERIDIAN.
