DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH
OCTOBER 2025
WHEREAS, domestic violence is characterized by abusive actions or threats in a
personal relationship that seek to control and dominate one partner
over another. Abuse can manifest in various forms, including
physical, emotional, sexual, economic or emotional harm; and
WHEREAS, domestic violence in any community can be a hidden and often
unrecognized issue that often goes unreported to authorities; and
WHEREAS, it is essential to question the norms surrounding domestic violence,
take proactive steps to prevent it, and ensure that offenders are held
accountable for their actions; and
WHEREAS, throughout their lives, approximately one in three women and one in
four men will experience some form of domestic violence; and
WHEREAS, the City of Apache Junction, the Apache Junction Police
Department, A New Leaf and various agencies, organizations, and
state coalitions across Arizona and the nation are dedicated to
preventing domestic violence. They do this by promoting awareness
campaigns, educating the community, and advocating for the rights
of victims.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Walter"Chip" Wilson, Mayor of the City of Apache Junction,
Arizona, do hereby proclaim October 2025, as
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH
