PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION

SPECIAL MEETING
November 21, 1980
A special meeting of the Apache Junction Parks and Recreation
Commission was held on November 21, 1980 at 7:00 P.M., at the
Apache Junction City Hall Complex pursuant to notice as
prescribed by law.

Acceptance of the Agenda:

Mr. Ray Lee, City Manager
Mr. Ray Lee, City Manager
Mrs. Lois Broman made a motion
to accept the agenda, which was
seconded by Mr. Thomas Farrell.
Motion carried unanimously.
Mr. Ray Lee, City Manager, opened
the first meeting of the Parks
and Recreation Commission.First
order of business was introductions
of city staff and members.Guests
present were:Mayor Virginia
Seeman; Richard Broman, Director
of Public Works; Jeff Bell,
Community Services Coordinator;
Sharon Seder, secretary.
Mayor Virginia Seeman was intro-
ducted and gave a welcome to the
Parks and Recreation Commission.
She stated due to Council meetings
and other committments, members
of the City Council could not
attend these meetings on a regu-
lar basis but would be glad to
attend when necessary.
Mr. Lee explained the organizational
chart and the duties of the Parks
and Recreation Commission.He
also explained the liability coverage
for the Commission.At this time,
he opened the floor for nominations
for a chairman for the Commission.
A motion was made by Mr. Thomas Farrell to nominate Mrs. Margaret
Carlin as Chairman of the Parks & Recreation Commission.Motion
seconded by
A motion was made by Mr. Phil Richardson to nominate Mrs. Lois
Broman as Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Commission.
Motion seconded by Mr. Harvey Long.
A motion was made by Mr. Harvey Long to elect a Chairman of the
Parks and Recreation Commission.There were five yes votes and
two abstained.
By secret ballot, there were four votes for Mrs. Broman, and two
for Mrs. Carlin.Mrs. Lois Broman was elected as Chairman of
the Parks and Recreation Commission.
A motion was made by Mr. Harvey Long to elect Mr. Phil Richardson
as Vice-Chariman of the Parks and Recreation Commission, with
Mr. Thomas Farrell seconding.
Mr. Thomas Farrell made a motion that nominations be closed and
Mr. Gerald Bright seconded the motion.
There were six votes in favor of Mr. Richardson and two abstaining.
Mr. Phil Richardson was elected as Vice -Chairman of the Parks
and Recreation Commission.

Jeff Bell, Community Service
Coordinator, introduced himself
and gave the Commission a brief
background of his interest in
the recreational field.Mr. Bell
gave a rundown on the programs
already effective in the Community
Service Department, and what he
would like to see in the future.
Mr. Bell introduced Mr. Rich
Broman, Director of Public Works.
Mr. Broman asked that the
Commission not only look at the
needs of the community today but
to also make long range (five -
ten years) plans for the future.
Mrs. Broman took her seat as
Chairman for the Commission and
opened discussion for a regular
meeting night.Mr. Ronald Staples
made a motion for the regular
meeting night of the Parks and
Recreation Commission to be the
fourth Monday of each month at
7:00 P.M. in the City Hall Complex
The motion was seconded by Mrs.
Margaret Carlin.Motion carried
unanimously.
The next regular meeting of the
Parks and Recreation Commission
will be November 24, 1 0 80.
Mr. Bell explained the material
that was available for persual of
the Commission from AORCC.It was
asked if the City could provide
note pads for the Commission's
use.
Mr. Thomas Farrell made a motion
to adjourn which was seconded by
Mr. Raymond Foisy.Motion carried
unanimously.Meeting adjourned
at 8:04 P.M.
