Regular Meeting
December 22, 1980
A regular meeting of the Apache Junction Parks and Recreation
Commission was held on December 22, 1980 at 7:00 p.m. at the
Apache Junction City Hall Complex pursuant to notice as prescribed
by law.

Mr. Ronald Staples made a
motion to accept the agenda,
which was seconded by Harvey
Long.Motion carried
unanimously.
A motion by Gerald Bright
was made to accept the
minutes from November 21,
1980 Special Meeting.Motion
seconded by Ronald Staples.
Motion carried unanimously.
Lois Broman opened the floor
for nomination of a secretary
for the Commission.DeDe
Scheff was the sole nominee.
Ronald Staples made a motion
to elect DeDe Scheff as
Secretary to the Parks and
Recreation Commission.Motion
was seconded by Harvey Long.
Motion carried unanimously.
None.
Coordinator Comments:Jeff
Bell, Community Service
Coordinator, briefed the
Commission on recreation and
service programs currently
offered in the Community Ser-
vice Department.Mr. Bell
also gave an update on the
ballfield and tennis court
project.He stated the cost
of the parking lot would be
absorbed by the school because
this portion of the project
was not included in the base
bid.Mr. Bell estimated the
completion date would be
February 28, 1980.

Mr. Bell informed the
Commission of the actions now
being taken by the Veterans
Memorial Park Committee, who
are soliciting donations for
the construction of a gazebo
in the southwest corner of
Section 16 (City Complex).
Bell said a recreation plan
would be premature at this
point, and needs to be co-
ordinated with the Planning
Department as its relation
to the rest of the City Plan.
He informed the Commission on
the various alternatives in
planning in such areas as
acquisition of land, and con-
struction of facilities.Bell
suggested that each commission
member draw up a wish list of
Park and Recreation facilities
they would like to see, and
a priority list could be
established at the next
meeting.
Mr. Bell informed the Com-
mission that an Intergovern-
mental Agreement is being
drawn up at this time between
the City and School for the
use of recreation facilities.
He explained the agreement
briefly.Commission dis-
cussion followed.
Mrs. Broman opened the floor
for discussion of fund raising
ideas for the construction of
a swimming pool.Raffles,
aluminun can collection, and
benefit athletic events were
some suggestions discussed.
Raymond Foisy said he would
contact Carl Otherson in help
promoting this drive.Dis-
cussion of establishing a
Swimming Pool Drive Sub -Com-
mittee followed.
