HomeMy WebLinkAbout1984 02.27 PRC Minutes117 CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION 1001 North Idaho Road Apache Junction,Arizona 85220 REGULAR MEETING February 27,1984 A regular meeting of the Apache Junction Parks and Recreation Commission was held on February 27,1984 at 7:00 p.m.at the Community Services Building pursuant to notice as prescribed by law. PRESENT Michael Carden,Chairman Chuck Heermans,Vice -Chairman Lois Broman,Secretary Ted Millspaugh Redena Bilotti Suzanne Bartell STAFF PRESENT: CALL TO ORDER: ACCEPTANCE OF AGENDA: ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTES: SUPERINTENDENT'S COMMENTS: OLD BUSINESS: A.Discussion of The One -Time Budget Override: B.Youth Soccer: C.Fiddlers Championship: ABSENT Jennie Bennett (excused) Janice Paulson (excused) Irene Wernett Jeff Bell,Community Services Superintendent Phyllis Wolfe,Secretary Michael Carden,Chairman,called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Chuck Heermans made a motion to accept the agenda as presented.Lois Broman seconded the motion which passed unanimously. Copies of minutes were not available. Staff introduced new Secretary Phyllis Wolfe. Jeff Bell briefed the Commission on the various activities being offered by the department. After a broad general discussion on what money is available,Redena Bilotti made a motion for $300,000.00 recommendation to City Council in One -Time Budget Override.Lois Broman seconded the motion which passed unanimously.I t is the feeling of the Commission that the $300,000.00 could complete engineering work,utility exten- sion and development of two ballfields. Approximately 40 kids rode the city bus to a Phoenix Pride game on February 25th.Next week will be the last week of the Soccer tournament. Parent groups will take over the program. Chuck Heermans briefed the Commission on the Fiddlers Championships.After a lengthy dis- cussion i t was decided that the Fiddlers Champion- ship needs to be held over each year.Michael Carden,Chairman,suggested getting a nucleous group together to coordinate the Fiddlers Contest with Blue Grass.I t was decided to discuss the Fiddlers Contest at the next regular meeting. Staff will contact local officials to come. [ 19 P &R Commission Regular Meeting 2/27 /8 4 page 2 NEW BUSINESS: A.Swimming Pool Fees:Staff presented Commission a breakdown of fees other cities charge for the use of their pools. To allow for public input i t was suggested that news releases be prepared inviting public to attend next meeting to allow for input. B.Next Months Agenda Items: ADJOURNMENT: APPROVAL: Michael Carden,Chairman,requested that the following items be included on next months agenda:Prospectors Park,Pool Fees,Easter Egg Hunt,Expired Terms. There being no further business,Lois Broman made a motion to adjourn.Redena Bilotti seconded the motion which passed unanimously.
