SPECIAL MEETING
January 14,1985
A special meeting of the Apache Junction Parks and Recreation Commission
was held on January 14,1985 at 7:00 p.m.at the Apache Junction Chamber of
Commerce pursuant to notice as prescribed by law.

STAFF PRESENT:Jeff Bell,Community Services Superintendent
Phyllis Wolfe,Secretary
CALL TO ORDER:Michael Carden,Chairman,called the meet-
ing to order at 7:10 p.m.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:Michael Carden,Chairman,led the Commis-
sion in the pledge of allegiance.
ACCEPTANCE OF AGENDA:Janice Palson made a motion to accept the
agenda as presented.Jack Rivers seconded
the motion which passed unanimously.
ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTES:
SUPERINTENDENTS COMMENTS:
Janice Palson made a motion to accept the
minutes of November 26,1984 regular meet-
ing.James Appler seconded the motion
which passed unanimously.
Jeff Bell informed the Commission the main
purpose of this special meeting was to dis-
cuss with the City Manager,Mike McNulty,
different alternatives about financing some
of our park improvements.Due to the illness
of the City Manager,we will ask him to come
to our regular meeting on January 28,1985.
Chuck Heermans informed the Commission of the
L.D.S.Church's plans to construct a new
church on 16th Avenue and Ironwood Drive.
Also planned is the development of two base-
ball fields adjacent to the church site.
Mr.Heermans has invited Church represen-
tatives to present this project at our next

meeting.I t was suggested that our local
Little League and Soccer League officials
also be invited to hear the presentation.
Staff informed the Commission on December
7,1984 the Arizona Outdoor Recreation
Coordinating Commission approved funding
of $102,500.00 for Prospector Park.All
recommended projects are now sent back
to the National Park Service in Washington
for final approval.We received the second
highest allocation in the state.
Jeff Bell informed the Commission we
cannot commit any grant money until we
receive final approval from the National
Parks Service,so engineering and design
work has stopped until funding is approved.
Due to the illness of the City Manager,
no discussion was held.
Status of Land and Water Conservation Fund,
Discussion on Municipal Golf Course,Dis-
cussion on Park Ordinances,Update on Bur-
eau of Land Management Lease Application.

made a motion to adjourn.Janice Palson
seconded the motion which passed unanimously.
