HomeMy WebLinkAbout1985 03.25 PRC Minutes2,09 CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION 1001 North Idaho Road Apache Junction,Arizona 85220 REGULAR MEETING March 25,1985 A regular meeting of the Apache Junction Parks and Recreation Commission was held on March 25,1985 at 7:00 p.m.at the Apache Junction City Hall pursuant to notice as prescribed by law. PRESENT ABSENT Michael Carden -Chairman Ted Millspaugh-Vice Chairman Lois Broman-Secretary Jack Rivers Redena Bilotti Suzanne Bartell Chuck Heermans Janice Palson John Granillo Jr. James Appler STAFF PRESENT:Jeff Bell,Community Services Superintendent Mary March,Secretary CALL TO ORDER: PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: ACCEPTANCE OF AGENDA: ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTES: SUPERINTENDENTS COMMENTS: Old Business: A.Discussion of Park Ordinances: Michael Carden,Chairman,called the meeting to order 7:15 p.m. Michael Carden,Chairman,led the Commission in the pledge of allegiance. Janice Palson made a motion to accept the agenda as presented.James Appler seconded the motion which passed unanimously. Janice Palson made a motion to accept the minutes of February 25,1985 regular meeting.Chuck Heermans seconded the motion which passed unanimously. Jeff Bell introduced to the CommissiOn Mary March,new Clerk Receptionist, and employment of Robert Young ,Parks Maintenance Laborer. Jeff Bell .informed the_CommiSsiOn:. Ted Millspaugh,Vice -Chairman resigned from Parks and Recreation Commission. Staff briefed the Commission on the status of the various programs being offered by the Community Services Department. Jeff Bell distributed literature from City of Tempe,Mesa and Casa Grande on Park Ordinances Council decided to analyze ordinances and discuss in depth at April 22,1985 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting. 211 P &R Commission Regular Meeting 3/25/85 Page 2 B.Discussion of Community Services Bus: C.Five -Year Parks Improvement Program: D.Status of Prospector Park Improvements: NEW BUSINESS: A.Discussion of Swimming Pool Fees: B.Request for Upcoming Agenda: Jeff Bell informed the Commission that i t would cost approximately $40,000 to replace bus new and $64,000 for and 84 passenger capacity bus.To do overhaul i t would cost approximately $2,000 to $2,500.Condition of used bus wouldn't be any different. Jeff Bell also informed Commission that an 8 week bus route for summer activities would cost approximately $2,500 which includes fuel,oil, driver and 15 mile route. After lengthy discussion Michael Carden,Chairman,suggested further cost figures for complete overhaul of bus,to include air conditioning, be presented at April 22,1985 meeting Jeff Bell presented to Commission booklet,Five -Year Plan -Parks and Open Space,improvement program adopted by Commission a February 25, 1985 meeting.The City Council adopt- ed the document at their March 19, 1985 meeting. Jeff Bell informed Commission that the Bureau of Land Management submitted a proposed mitigation and cost estimate to him for $44,000 for preservation of Hohokam indian archaeological sites. Jeff Bell informed Commission the Water Company approved plans.Still needs approval of State Health Depart- ment,Pinal County,A.O.R.C.C.and City of Apache Junction.After receiving approval from A.O.R.C.C.will open for bids. After a long discussion John Granillo Jr. made a motion to advertise a 10% discount on season passes in all age groups from April 15,1985 until May 15,1985.Advertisement to include general information Janice Palson seconded the motion which passed unanimously The Commission also agreed to leave fees the same for one more year with the exception of the early discount.
