REGULAR MEETING
April 22, 1985
A regular meeting of the Apache Junction Parks and Recreation
Commission was held on April 22, 1985 at 7:00 p.m. at the Apache
Junction City Hall pursuant to notice as prescribed by law.

Michael Carden, Chairman, called the
meeting to order at 7:02 p.m.
Michael Carden, Chairman, led the
Commission in the pledge of allegiance.
Janice Palson made a motion to accept
the agenda as presented.John Granillo Jr.
seconded the motion which passed unanimously.

Jeff Bell, informed the Commission, City
Council appointed Judd Williams as new
member of Commission.Have received 2
new Talent Bank applications, Paul Miller
and Deanene Weber, an A.S.U. student,
will present them to City Council for
appointment.
Staff briefed Commission on past pro-
grams consisting of, Itty-Bitty Olympics-
45 participants, Easter Egg Hunt, Easter
Breakin-12 participants, 4th Annual Bike
Rodeo -35 participants, Girls Softball
Clinic, 50% of expected sign ups but
still optimistic, 3 -men Basketball in
its 3rd week, Little Rec'rs is over until
summer session, June 17 and 2 Early Bird
season passes have been purchased.
Jeff Bell also thanked Michael Carden
and James Appler for hiding eggs at
Easter Egg Hunt.

Jeff Bell asked for pros and cons so
he could put guidelines into proper

Chuck Heermans referred to Chandler's
categorized use of facilities and pro-
fit making functions to be approved by
City Council.John Granillo Jr. no
golfing only in designated area, pets
allowed if maintained under control also
referred to Tempe's prohibition of roller
skates and skateboards as good.
Jeff Bell informed the Commission the
$12,000.00 would completely revamp the
Community Services Bus, which includes
$8,000.00 - $9,000.00 for air condition-
ing.City mechanics will do overhauling.
This figure is included in FY 85/86 Bud-
get Proposal.
Jeff Bell informed the Commission that
we have received the plans back, which
are tentatively approved by Rich Broman.
They have been sent to Pinal County &
State Health Department, waiting on com-
ments, then will go our for bid, which
will give Carter Associates time for
any revisions.
Jeff Bell informed Commission, the pool
improvements include 1500 sq. ft. kool-
deck, 125 sq.ft. of storage, 8'x 8' chain
linked fence refreshment area, 24'x 28'
ramada and picnic tables, which is out
for bid.Bids will be opened Thursday,
April 25, 1985, estimated cost at $10,000.00-
$12,000.00.Three local contractors have
bid packets and is advertised in the Mesa
Tribune.

Jeff Bell informed the Commission the
summer program will be basically the
same as previous year with addition of
more special interest classes geered
more towards adults.Registration is
May 22-23, 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the High
School Cafetorium.
Jeff Bell also informed the Commission
that we received a cost figure of $1700.00
for 5,000 copies from the Apache Independent
for summer brochure.Print n Copy offered
a lower figure and Chuck Baker is selling
advertisement spaces for $20.00 saying we
support summer recreation.
Jeff Bell, distributed and summarizes
proposed budget figures to Commission,
calling attention to requests for a
Recreational Coordinator, due to the
added responsibility of Senior/Community
Center, vehicle due to addition of Parks
Laborer, Five -Year Park Improvement.
Fiscal Year 85/86 Budget Proposal is also
broke down into divisions, Administration,
Parks, Recreation and Aquatics allowing
for better accountability.
Jeff Bell also informed the Commission
of Wednesday, April 24,1985, 1:00 p.m.
with the Bureau of Land Management staff
Archaelogist, establishing guidelines
for Hohokam site and reviewing of pro-
posed budget.
Discussion of Park Ordinances, Status
of Prospector Park, Discussion of Summer
Recreation Program, Discussion of Pool
Improvements, Discussion of Pool Opening,
Upcoming Special Events, Update of B.L.M.
archaelogical meeting, Election of Officers.
Janice Palson mentioned the need for
covering racquetball courts.
Jeff Bell informed the Commission, Carron
Net quoted a figure of $300.00 to cover
both courts with nylon net.

There being no further business, Janice
Palson made a motion to adjourn.Redena
Bilotti seconded motion which passed un-
animously.

Junction City Hall pursuant to notice as prescribed by law.

Holiday, no meeting was held.
