HomeMy WebLinkAbout1993 10.18 PRC MinutesCITY OF APACHE JUNCTION PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION 1001 North Idaho Road Apache Junction, Az. 85219 SPECIAL MEETING October 18, 1993 A special meeting of the Apache Junction Parks and Recreation Commission was held on October 18, 1993 at 6:00 p.m. at the Apache Junction City hall pursuant to notice as prescribed by law. PRESENT ABSENT Nick McVicker, Chairman Judd Williams, Vice -Chairman Lois Broman Loyd Lynch Kristi Moyle Gary Mulholland J.R. Palmer STAFF PRESENT: CALL TO ORDER: PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: ACCEPTANCE OF AGENDA: Jeff Bell, Director of Parks and Recreation George Hoffman, Assistant City Manager Chairman McVicker Called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. and led the Commission in the Pledge of Allegiance. Judd Williams made a motion to accept the agenda as presented, Loyd Lynch seconded the motion which passed unanimously. STAFF COMMENTS:Mr.Bell informed the Commission that he attended an Arizona Outdoor Recreation Coordination Commission meeting on October 14, to present Prospector Park Phase III development plans to the Commission for Heritage and Land and Water Conservation Grant funding, consideration.State Parks staff and the Commission will evaluate all applications and projects and determine funding allocations in early December. PRESENTATION BY APACHE JUNCTION MAIN STREET PROGRAMS ON PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS ALONG APACHE TRAIL: PUBLIC COMMENT: BOARD DISCUSSION: ADJOURNMENT: APPROVED: Chairman Bob Debow, representing Apache Junction Main Street Inc.presented information on proposed improvement plans for the Apache Trail corridor. The concept, according to Mr. Debow is to enhance the downtown area to attract shoppers and improve the economic condition of the area.The proposed improvement plans entail establishing entry way signs, upgrading medians with wrought iron southwestern, style silhouette and developing a town square/park project at the northeast corner of Phelps Drive and Apache Trail. After some general discussion J.R. Palmer made a motion to accept the concept as presented by Main Street and recommend City Council approval.Judd Williams seconded the motion which passed uanimously.
