A regular meeting of the Apache Junction Parks and Recreation Commission was held on
October 26, 1998, 7:00 p.m. at the Apache Junction City Hall pursuant to notice as prescribed by
law.

Pat Richmond called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. and
led the commission in the pledge of allegiance.
Jami Taylor made a motion to accept the agenda as
presented. Richard Anderson seconded the motion it passed
unanimously.
Jami Taylor made a motion to accept the minutes from
September 28, 1998, regular meeting.Brian Milkey
seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Jeff Bell informed the Commission of the City's 20 Year
Anniversary Party, November 17th at 5:00 p.m. at the
Gazebo.
Parks and Recreation Department employee for this quarter
was Raul Guereca and the department had 10 employees
with perfect attendance.
Department has established a Banner Standard Policy with
Fee.Policy regulates size, establishes procedures for
displaying banners on standards located on Apache Trail as

you enter either side of town.City Council will be
considering approval at their next regular Council meeting.
Staff received thank yous for assisting with Renaissance
Point's picnic and Main Street's Cowboy Poets program.
Events coming up include the annual Halloween Carnival
at the H.S., Ben Johnson Days the first weekend in
November and Superstition Stampede the weekend of
Thanksgiving at the Rodeo Grounds.
Jeff Bell relayed to the Commission that the City Council
awarded bid to American Fence for the Prospector Park
ballfield fencing project.
Plans to revise pump station at Prospector Park will be
ready to go out for bid within 30 days.
Soccer field lighting project at Prospector Park is awaiting
transformer plans from SRP, we are hoping to bid project in
about 30 days.
Parks crew has been busy overseeding grass areas at all
park facilities.
City's Special Projects Manager has made us aware that
their is approximately $40,000, in transportation grant
money available to our community.Possible avenue for
multi -use trail signage.
Jeff Bell turned the discussion over to Rick Counts & Steve
Dale of CSC Counts for comments and discussion on Parks
Master Plan. Commission members pointed out several
areas where corrections,
grammatical/statistical/typographical, were needed.Issues
addressed were the need to express motorized vehicle
needs, and to keep separate from non -motorized uses;
possibility of trailways along C.A.P. canalways; another
potential site added for a regional park on the south side of
town so there are two options; list sites for aquatic facility,
leave suggested site and add Thunder Mountain Middle
School, the Boys and Girls Club proposed facility, and
improvements on existing facility as potential sites.
NEW BUSINESS:
A. Presentation on Skating Facility:Dr. Madzey, is not present to make presentation, continue
item to future meeting.Jeff Bell will contact Dr. Madzey
as to his intentions.
B.Request for Upcoming Agenda
Items:Park Project Update; Parks Master Plan Discussion;
Election of Officers.
C. Establish Next Meeting Date:November 23, 1998.
PUBLIC COMMENT:NONE
ADJOURNMENT:Their being no further business the meeting was dismissed
at 8:15 p.m. unanimously.
