Town of Gilbert. Retired Public Works Director from Tucson, who is
not interested,is currently serving as Interim Public Works
Director until position is filled.
We are in the midst of our annual budgeting process. We are asking
for an additional Park Ranger,we already asked for 1.5 Park
Maintenance Workers in last year's budget,in preparation for
development of the new park.Positions related to Senior Services
will also be requested.
We are requesting funds for repair/replacement of Kool-decking at
Superstition Shadows Aquatic Center. This has not been performed
since pool was put in. This is badly needed and very costly.
Nick Blake, Parks Superintendent has resubmitted application for
us to retain our Kaboom Playful City designation.
OLD BUSINESS:
Flatiron Community Park Development Update
Liz Langenbach briefly reviewed activity to date.In March soft
opening was held to recognize our sponsors.
Due to addition of alternates the construction time line was
very hard to stick to or calculate.
With the park substantially completed and once we felt the grass
was established we decided to take down the perimeter fencing,
prior to grand opening on April 2 2 nd ,and people have been
utilizing ever since.
So, we have some things on our punch list like dog waste depots,
etc_The old wall is going to be repaired and painted. We are
also extending the wall to help with the confusion people our
experiencing on how to exit the parking lot.
We have met with businesses who have expressed concerns related
to parking. Property, business owners and City staff had a very
productive meeting yesterday which resulted in a few events we
could do together. Parking in the park & on the street for the
park equals about 100 spaces.
Bryant Powell, put us in contact with Polynesian Dancers who had
expressed interest in providing interactive dance demonstration
prior to our grand opening movie in the park "Moana".
The Grand Opening on April 22nd will begin at about 5:30pm with
presentation and recognition of park supporter, contributors,
P&R Commission and City Council.
