1. Call to Order
Chairman Standage called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm
2. Roll Call
Present 7- Chairperson Standage, Commissioner Schoenbeck, Commissioner Moeller,Vice

Chairman Standage led the Commission in the Pledge of Allegiance
4. Acceptance of Agenda

Chairman Standage called for a motion to accept the agenda of December 4, 2019 regular
meeting.
Commissioner Buzzin motion to accept the agenda as presented. Vice-Chairman Gage
seconded. The Parks and Recreation Commission accepted the agenda as presented.
Approved in a vote of 7 in favor 0 opposed, (yes: Moeller, Buzzin, Schoenbeck, Standage, Gage,
Waldie, Borey. no: none)
5. Acceptance of Minutes
19-579 October 2, 2019
Chairman Standage called for a motion to accept the minutes of October 2, 2019, regular
meeting.
Commissioner Schoenbeck motioned to accept the minutes as presented. Commissioner
Buzzin seconded. Approved in a vote of 7 in favor, 0 opposed. (yes:Borey, Moller, Buzzin,
Schoenbeck, Standage, Gage, Waldie. no:none)

6. Parks and Recreation Director's Report
19-581 Facilities Update - Director's update on projects and opportunities in the parks
and other service areas.
Director Langenbach advised the commission the dog park is still in the gathering data phase
so we have nothing new to report from the design team, mostly likely closer to the end of this
year.
We do have multiple funding sources available that will be utilized toward development once the
design is complete.
October 26th we along with other City departments participated in a new annual event. National
Make a Difference Day that coordinates projects with people for the purpose of making a
difference in peoples lives and their communities. We incorporated our annual Think Desert
event and new Apache Junction Median Improvement project into this event. Donations were
received from many local businesses and volunteer organizations. This was a very successful
event and will happen annual on the last Saturday in October.
Prospector Park playgrounds have received replacement and additional equipment with plans to
add additional equipment in next years budget.
We also budgeted for and installed a shade structure to protect and preserve our mobile stage
from the harsh sun and elements.
19-582 Program Update - Director's update on upcoming events and activities
Director Langenbach relayed the City's Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and Holiday Parade is
this weekend and will go on as planned rain or shine unless unsafe. The following Saturday is a
Movie in the Park and starting the second week in January we will have a major event every
weekend.
7. Old Business
19-583 BLM Update
Director Langenbach advised all leases have been renewed with BLM and we have applied for
patent on Prospector Park. Rodeo Grounds is being looked into for patent as well as possible
purchase. Due to our lease and existing development not anyone would be able to purchase
and we do have some money designated for this purpose.
8. New Business
19-584 Grant Program Priorities-discussion and prioritization of parks & trails grant
opportunities.
Director Langenbach relayed the approved Active Transportation Plan is available at
ajcity.net/active it is an extensive plan which includes implementation of sidewalks and is
incorporated into the Capital Improvement Plan.
It has no implementation plan for trails or multiuse trail system, but presents and opportunity for
us to begin the discussion to implement a plan to protect resources that we have and may be

currently available to us before they are encroached upon. Commission members were very
responsive to this task.
19-585 Election of Officers
Chairman Standage opened the nomination for Parks and Recreation Commission
Vice-chairperson. Frank Schoenbeck nominated Heather Moeller. Chairman Standage call for
additional nominations for vice-chairman. Heather Moeller nominated Jesse Gage. Chairman
Standage called for additional nominations for vice-chairman. No more nominations were
received and nominations were closed. Role call voting in order of nomination commenced as
follows:
Heather Moeller recieved 4 ayes and 2 nays
Ayes-Commissioners Schoenbeck, Gage, Waldie, Borey
Nays-Commissioners Buzzin and Standage
Chairman Standage opened the nominations for Parks and Recreation Commission Chairman.
Judy Borey nominated Jesse Gage for chairman. Chairman Standage called for additional
nominees for chairman. Jesse Gage nominated Wayne Standage for chairman. Chairman
Standage called for additional nominees for chairman hearing none nominations were closed.
Roll call voting in order of nomination commenced as follows:
Jesse Gage recieved 2 ayes and 5 nays.
Ayes-Commissioners Borey, Schoenbeck
Nays-Gage,Waldie, Moeller, Buzzin, Standage
Wayne Standage recieved 7 ayes and 0 nays.
Ayes-Commissioners Waldie, Borey, Moeller, Buzzin, Schoenbeck, Standage, Gage
