Call to Order Chairperson Standage called the regular meeting of the City of Apache Junction Parks and Recreation Commission to order at 6:04 p.m. 2. Pledge of Allegiance Chairperson Standage led the Pledge of Allegiance. 3. Roll Call Present 7- Chairperson Standage, Commissioner Schoenbeck,Commissioner Moeller, Commissioner Buzzin,Vice Chair Borey, Commissioner Kyhn, and Chairperson Moore Staff present: Liz Langenbach, Parks and Recreation Director Jamie Sullivan, Recreation Superintendent Carol Otto, Parks and Recreation Administrative Assistant 4. Consent Agenda Commissioner Frank Schoenbeck moved that the Parks and Recreation Commission accept the agenda as presented and approve the minutes from the December 1,2021 regular meeting. Commissioner Luciano Buzzin seconded the motion. Yes: 7- Chairperson Standage, Commissioner Schoenbeck,Commissioner Moeller, Commissioner Buzzin,Vice Chair Borey, Commissioner Kyhn and Chairperson Moore No: 0 22-043 Consideration of approval of agenda. 22-044 Consideration of approval of regular meeting minutes of December 1, 2021. Attachments: PR Meeting Minutes 12012021 5. Information and Reports Commissioners Heather Moeller, Frank Schoenbeck,Terralle Moore, and Judy Borey all made positive comments regarding the Apache Junction Centennial Event. Vice Chair Judy Borey attended the John Denver event in Flatiron Park and had a lot of fun. Terralle Moore also commented on attending the Bingo event with his family and enjoyed it. Staff Report 22-063 Presentation and discussion on projects and opportunities in the parks and other service areas. Director's Report- Director Langenbach gave an update on BLM puchasing process. Apache Trail Median update- In the last couple of weeks there was hauling of granite and river rock for the 2 sections already planted. Public Works is preparing curb and gutters for the next 2 sections for next year. Focal Point update -Winter flowers will be changed out this spring. Commissioner Moeller and Commissioner Schoenback gave some positive feedback on the plan to alternate flowers and cactus. Silly Mountain update-Grant funds finalized for a ramada, restroom, and fencing. The Superstition Area Land Trust trail crew put in 162 hours of volunteer work on the trails in December and January. Still waiting for final approval of funds for the LWCF grant for Superstition Shadows Park. Final comments on the Centennial event which was a community led event that we were able to be a part of.Appreciation for those commission members that attended. 22-064 Presentation, discussion and update on upcoming events and activities. Recreation Superintendent Update-Jamie Sullivan began her presentation making positive comments on the Centennial event. She then updated the commission on recruitments for summer employees including the hiring of recreation staff, lifeguards, swim instructors as well as other staff. The Trails and Tails event at Prospector Park, which included dogs. was a success and we plan on this being an annual event. She is hoping that Burro racing, which was at the Centennial event, can also be a part of one of our events. The free vaccination event had over 300 people in January.The next events are scheduled for February 5th and 18th. Superintendent Sullivan then shared upcoming events and activities and also shared an update on our new recreation software, Civic Rec. 7. Old Business 22-065 Parks & Recreation Master Planning - Presentation and discussion on areas for improvement or replacement within the parks system and next steps for generating a Parks & Recreation Strategic Plan. Attachments: PR Master Planning-220202 4 YR IMPROVMENT PLAN -COMMISSION PRESENTATION Director Langenbach presented a 2020 General Plan review and shared an update including the 4 year plan for Facility refurbishment/replacement/enhancements. Director Langenbach went through the next steps that need to take place in future commission meetings, community outreach, sharing results with the commission and adopting a Parks and Rec strategic plan. 22-066 Dutchman Dog Park- Update and discussion on progress of construction, operations, and art installation for Dutchman Dog Park. Director Langenbach gave an update regarding the construction of Dutchman Dog Park. She also reminded the commission of the public art installation sponsored by the Public Art Commission and details of the funding for the project. She informed everyone of the scheduled City of Apache Junction,Arfzona page 2 Parks& Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes February 2, 2022 maintenance days and the hours of operation. Recreation Superintendent Sullivan handed out draft-only brochures and Dutchman Dog Park stickers to the Commissioners and staff. She informed the members that this park will have 3 distinct areas including the smallest which may be reserved by individuals or groups such as Paws& Claws. The next DDP Citizen Committee meeting is scheduled for February 7th for anyone wanting to attend. S. New Business No new business. 9. Call to Public None. 10. Call for Future Agenda Items None. 11. Selection of Meeting Dates, Times, Location and Purpose 22-080 Regular Meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission to be held at 6:00 p.m. on March 2, 2022 in the city council chambers located at 300 E. Superstition Boulevard. Commissioner Heather Moeller moved,seconded by Commissioner Terralle Moore that the regular session of the Parks and Recreation Commission be held March 2, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. In the city council chambers located at 300 E.Superstition Boulevard,Apache Junction.
