1. Call to Order
Commissioner Frank Schoenbeck called the regular meeting of the City of Apache Junction
Parks and Recreation Commission to order at 6:01 p.m.
2. Pledge of Allegiance
Commissioner Frank Schoenbeck led the Pledge of Allegiance.
3. Roll Call
Present 5- Commissioner Schoenbeck, Commissioner Moeller, Vice Chair Borey,
Commissioner Kyhn, and Chairperson Moore
Absent 2- Chairperson Standage, and Commissioner Buzzin
Staff present:
Liz Langenbach, Parks and Recreation Director
Jamie Sullivan, Recreation Superintendent
JJ Underwood, Recreation Coordinator
Riley King, Management Analyst
Carol Otto, Parks and Recreation Administrative Assistant
Vice Chair Judy Borey arrived at 6:12 p.m.
4. Consent Agenda
Commissioner Heather Moeller moved that the Parks and Recreation Commission accept the
agenda as presented and approve the minutes from the March 2,2022 regular meeting.
Commissioner Terralle Moore seconded the motion.

5. Information and Reports
Commissioner Moeller stated that the Dutchman Dog Park Grand Opening was fantastic.
Commissioner Moore also made favorable remarks about the Dutchman Dog Park.
Commissioner Kyhn said she had put some positive comments on social media about the park
and was looking forward to using the MGC in the near future. Commissioner Schoenbeck had
some very positive comments about the Easter Egg Hunt.
6. Staff Report
22-275 Presentation and discussion on projects and opportunities in the parks and
other service areas.
Director Langenbach gave an update on parks and other service areas including the Silly
Mountain fence project and a MAG grant to assess design of planned trails in the Active
Transportation Plan.
22-276 Presentation, discussion and update on upcoming events and activities.
Recreation Superintendent Sullivan updated the commission on upcoming events and activities.
She expressed appreciation to commissioners who were able to help with events including the
Easter Egg Hunt. She also gave an update on the new Special Event Coordinator, Jared Grimm.
The Friday before Memorial Day will be the official opening day for the pool and she gave an
overview of events taking place there and new swim program we are utilizing. She gave a
synopsis of the state of hiring for summer programs.
22-279 Presentation and discussion by JJ Underwood regarding Senior Services&
School programs.
Recreation Coordinator JJ Underwood gave a presentation of the Senior Services area and
what is offered, as well as an update on activities for school aged children and teens.
Commissioner Frank Schoenbeck praised the Senior Services department and commented on
his interaction with members of the Youth Advisory Council and Commissioner Judy Borey
suggested that one of these members might present at a future Citizen Leadership Institute
meeting. Director Langenbach shared the history of Senior Services prior to Parks and
Recreation taking it over.
7. Old Business
22-277 Dutchman Dog Park- Recap and discussion on the successful completion of
construction, operations, and opening celebration of Dutchman Dog Park,
including an update on public art installation for the park.
Director Langenbach gave an overview of the ribbon cutting ceremony held for the dog park and
presented an update on maintenance of the park and future plans for more trees and benches,
the number of reservations made for the small section, and how busy it is in the evenings.Vice
Chair Borey commented on seeing dogs enjoying themselves there with their owners. Director
Langenbach gave an update on the public art process and Commissioner Moore shared his
experience serving on the artist selection panel.

8. New Business
22-278 Discussion regarding the activities for the annual 4th of July Fireworks
Celebration.
Director Langenbach gave an update on the 4th of July Fireworks Celebration and challenges to
location and fireworks availability. Backup plans were shared and she asked for any input from
the commissioners. No one had any at this time.
22-280 Presentation and discussion by Management Analyst, Riley King, on the
transition to Civic Rec Parks and Recreation Management software.
Riley King, Management Analyst, gave a brief presentation regarding the transition being made
to Civic Rec management software for our department.
9. Call to Public
Sarah Moore, 446 S Olmo Circle Apache Junction, made a suggestion regarding soliciting
donations for additional trees at the Dutchman Dog Park.
10. Call for Future Agenda Items
Vice Chair Judy Borey and Commission Diele Kyhn made suggestions for donor opportunities
to be presented. Commission Heather Moeller would like continued pool updates.
11. Selection of Meeting Dates, Times, Location and Purpose
22-282 Regular Meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission to be held at 6:00
p.m. on June 1, 2022 in the city council chambers located at 300 E.
Superstition Boulevard.
Commissioner Dials Kyhn moved,seconded by Vice Chair Judy Borey that the regular session of
the Parks and Recreation Commission be held June 1,2022 at 6:00 p.m.in the city council
chambers located at 300 E.Superstition Boulevard,Apache Junction.

12. Adjournment
Commissioner Frank Schoenbeck adjomed the meeting at 7:03 p.m.
