Call to Order Vice Chair Judy Borey called the regular meeting of the City of Apache Junction Parks and Recreation Commission to order at 6:00 p.m. 2. Pledge of Allegiance Vice Chair Judy Borey asked Commissioner Frank Schoenbeck to lead in the Pledge of Allegiance. 3. Roll Call Present 5- Commissioner Schoenbeck, Commissioner Moeller, Commissioner Buzzin,Vice Chair Borey, and Commissioner Kyhn Excused 2- Chairperson Standage, and Commissioner Moore Staff present: Liz Langenbach, Parks and Recreation Director Jamie Sullivan, Recreation Superintendent Gary Gartner, Recreation Coordinator Carol Otto, Parks and Recreation Administrative Assistant 4. Consent Agenda Commissioner Frank Schoenbeck moved that the Parks and Recreation Commission accept the agenda as presented and approve the minutes from the July 6,2022 regular meeting. Commissioner Luciano Buzzin seconded the motion. Yes: 5- Commissioner Schoenbeck, Commissioner Moeller, Commissioner Buzzin,Vice Chair Borey and Commissioner Kyhn No: 0 Excused: 2- Chairperson Standage and Commissioner Moore 22-483 Consideration of approval of agenda. 22-485 Consideration of approval of regular meeting minutes of July 6, 2022. Commissioners Frank Schoenbeck, Diele Kyhn, and Vice Chair.Judy Borey all made positive comments about the strategic plan surveys that they handed out to the public. There were very positive things mentioned including Dutchman Dog Park.Vice Chair Borey took some to the Chamber and to some town homes in her area. 6. Staff Report 22-486 Presentation and discussion on projects and opportunities in the parks and other service areas. Director Langenbach gave an update on parks and other service areas,including the new budget which was presented to the council. This included reconstruction of slide deck treads.The replacement of cardio equipment in the MGC will come from ARPA funds and a question was raised as to the disposal of these items. The Director stated the possibility of auction but other options are being explored. Director Langenbach gave a brief update on the Strategic Plan Survey and noted that the approximately 450 surveys have been turned in will help us determine what new amenities people from the community. Director Langenbach shared a short video of Dutchman Dog Park after the big storm and how successful the drainage channel was. 22-487 Presentation, discussion and update on upcoming events and activities. Recreation Superintendent Sullivan updated the commission on upcoming events and activities. She expressed her excitement over the survey response that were received. She presented commissioners with snacks in celebration of July being National Parks and Recreation Month and shared upcoming events in August. There will be a new brochure in the fall and Superintendent Sullivan will make sure we contact commissioners to assist with events coming this fall. She mentioned that the Youth Advisory Council is starting back up and then introduced the next speaker, Gary Gartner. 22-488 Presentation and discussion by Gary Gartner, Recreation Coordinator, regarding Youth and Adult Sports. Gary Gartner, Recreation Coordinator, gave a video presentation regarding Youth and Adult Sports and what that entails including the different types of sports, a synopsis of kids in sports today, and talked about the volunteer coaches. Commissioner Schoenbeck commented that he always hears good things about these areas. 7. Old Business 22-489 Continued discussion of public parks in the south master planned communities. Attachments: South District Park-Conceptual Director Langenbach gave an update on public parks in the south master planned communities and specifically the Brookfield Park System. She presented a visual conceptual plan and gave detailed updates on what is planned, and the nomenclature which will be used, in these areas. It is hoped that in September of 2023, Blossom Rock Development will open their first park, reviewed and reported on all 3 district parks and commented that it is a very walkable community. Director Langenbach gave an update on community engagement options. She had met with Superintendent Jamie Sullivan, Public Information Officer Al Bravo, and Production/Marketing & Communication Specialist Matt McNulty. Some ideas that were shared were welcome packets as well as "swag bags"for new families. They have upcoming meetings planned with several of the developers including the Brookfield Marketing Staff. She will keep the commission apprised of updates. 8. New Business None. 9. Call to Public 10. Call for Future Agenda Items Director Langenbach requested we add Arizona Sustainability Alliance and Tree City USA to our agenda in September. 11. Selection of Meeting Dates, Times, Location and Purpose Commissioner Frank Schoenbeck moved seconded by Commissioner Lucian Buzzin that the regular session of the Parks and Recreation Commission be held September 7,2022 at 6:00 p.m. in the city council chambers located at 300 E.Superstition Boulevard,Apache Junction. Yes: 5- Commissioner Schoenbeck, Commissioner Moeller, Commissioner Buzzin,Vice Chair Borey and Commissioner Kyhn No: 0 Excused: 2- Chairperson Standage and Commissioner Moore 22-491 Regular Meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission to be held at 6:00 p.m. on September 7, 2022 in the city council chambers located at 300 E.
