Call to Order Chairperson Wayne Standage called the regular meeting of the City of Apache Junction Parks and Recreation Commission to order at 6:00 p.m. 2. Pledge of Allegiance Chairperson Standage led the Pledge of Allegiance. 3. Roll Call Present 6- Chairperson Standage, Commissioner Schoenbeck, Commissioner Buzzin,Vice Chair Borey, Commissioner Kyhn,and Chairperson Moore Excused 1 - Commissioner Moeller Staff present: Liz Langenbach, Parks and Recreation Director Jamie Sullivan, Recreation Superintendent Dave Butler, Park Maintenance Supervisor Jill Ruot, Recreation Coordinator Carol Otto, Parks and Recreation Administrative Assistant 4. Consent Agenda Commissioner Frank Schoenbeck moved that the Parks and Recreation Commission accept the agenda as presented and approve the minutes from the June 1,2022 regular meeting. Commissioner Luciano Buzzin seconded the motion. Yes: 6- Chairperson Standage, Commissioner Schoenbeck, Commissioner Buzzin,Vice Chair Borey, Commissioner Kyhn and Chairperson Moore No: 0 Excused: I - Commissioner Moeller 22-402 Consideration of approval of agenda. 22-403 Consideration of approval of regular meeting minutes of June 1, 2022. Attachments: PR 060122 Meeting Minutes 5. Information and Reports Commissioner Schoenbeck made some positive comments about the 4th of July festival and City of Apache Junction,Arizona Pagel Parks&Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes July 6,2022 Commissioner Kyhn, Vice Chair Borey, and Chairman Standage added additional positive comments. 6. Staff Report 22-404 Presentation and discussion on projects and opportunities in the parks and other service areas and National Parks and Recreation Month in July. Director Langenbach gave an update on parks and other service areas including an upgrade to the MGC HVAC, National Parks & Recreation month proclamation including a video narrated by Superintendent Jamie Sullivan that went out on social media.Vice Chair Borey requested a link and Director Langenbach stated that she would send this link to all commissioners. The Director recognized 25 years of full time service by Superintendent Sullivan and shared a summary of her accomplishments. 22-405 Presentation, discussion and update on upcoming events and activities. Recreation Superintendent Jamie Sullivan updated the commission on past and upcoming events and activities including the launch of the new software program and the Rise Up for Parks and Recreation month. She reviewed many of the offerings to the recreating public. 22-406 Presentation and discussion by Dave Butler, Park Maintenance Supervisor for the South Team. Presentation and discussion by Dave Butler, Park Maintenance Supervisor for the South Team was made. He gave an overview of Superstition Shadows Park renovations, and other parks, downtown properties, and contracted areas within the city. He also shared about updates in the Dutchman Dog Park, and pointed out his team's assistance with special events and holiday events. Next, he fielded questions from commissioners and answered them in detail. 22-407 Presentation and discussion by Jill Ruot, Recreation Coordinator for Aquatics and Fitness. Jill Ruot, Recreation Coordinator for Aquatics and Fitness, presented an overview of her area giving detailed information and examples of programs and classes for all ages in both departments. She deftly answered questions that the commissioners had, giving examples and explanations as needed. 7. Old Business 22-408 Discussion and consideration of approval of the dedication of the Prospector Park Softball Complex in memory of former Parks and Recreation Director, Jeff Bell. Commissioner Frank Schoenbeck moved that the Parks and Recreation Commission accept the approval of the dedication of Prospector Park Softball Complex in memory of former Parks and Recreation Director,Jeff Bell.Vice Chair Judy Borey seconded the motion.It passed unanimously.Yes: 6-Chairperson Standage,Commissioner Schoenbeck,Commissioner Buzzin, Vice Chair Borey,Commissioner Kyhn,and Commissioner Moore.Excused: 1 -Commissioner Moeller Director Langenbach gave an overview of previous discussion for the approval of the dedication of the Prospector Park Softball Complex in memory of former Parks and Recreation Director, Jeff Bell. Considerable review of research was shared and consideration by the board was made prior to a motion to vote being made. Chair Wayne Standage added valuable comments City of Apache Junction,Arizona Page 2 Parks&Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes July 6,2022 on Jeffs contribution especially to the ball park, then he called fora motion and votes were cast. 22-409 Discussion regarding community engagement options for new housing developments. Community engagement options were presented by Director Langenbach to promote our city noting that Development Services and Al Bravo, City of Apache Junction Public Information Officer, are also assisting with this project.Vice Chair Judy Borey made a suggestion that we should also reach realtors with this information. 22-411 Update and discussion regarding the Community Survey questions for the Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan. Director Liz Langenbach gave an.update on the Community Survey questions that were sent in an email to the commissioners to review. Recreation Superintendent Sullivan shared that the survey questions are now"live" and were disseminated to the community at the July 4th event. She asked the commissioners to please get these out to the public as well. She also solicited assistance from board members for a future tented event. The commissioners responded with positive comments about the survey. Director Langenbach concluded this part of the meeting expressing her desire to wrap up our strategic plan. 8. New Business 22-410 Presentation and discussion of public parks in the south master planned communities. Director Langenbach presented on the public parks in the south master planned communities and included conceptual images on the Superstition Vistas areas as well as an overview of the entire site. This included extensive details of the D.R. Horton and Brookfield communities including parks, lakes, and the planned dog park. 9. Call to Public None. 10. Call for Future Agenda Items Commissioner Schoenbeck asked about the next big project. Director Langenbach replied that this would be determined through the Strategic Plan. 11. Selection of Meeting Dates, Times, Location and Purpose 22-412 Regular Meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission to be held at 6:00 p.m. on August 3, 2022 in the city council chambers located at 300 E. Superstition Boulevard. Commissioner Frank Schoenbeck moved seconded by Commissioner Terralle Moore that the regular session of the Parks and Recreation Commission be held August 3,2022 at 6:00 p.m.in the city council chambers located at 300 E.Superstition Boulevard,Apache Junction.
