Call to Order Chair Heather Moeller called the regular meeting of the City of Apache Junction Parks and Recreation Commission to order at 6:01 p.m. 2. Pledge of Allegiance Chair Heather Moeller led in the Pledge of Allegiance. 3. Roll Call Present 6- Chairperson Moeller, Vice Chair Kyhn, Commissioner Bigelow,Commissioner Schoenbeck, Commissioner Borey, and Commissioner Madrid Staff Present: Liz Langenbach, Parks and Recreation Director Jamie Sullivan, Recreation Superintendent Dave Buttler, Parks Superintendent Jody Dutra, Youth and Senior Services Coordinator Christi Hamm, Senior Administrative Assistant 4. Consent Agenda Commissioner Sheryl Bigelow moved that the Parks and Recreation Commission accept the agenda as presented and approve the minutes from the December 4,2024 regular meeting. Commissioner Judy Borey seconded the motion.This was approved. Yes: 6- Chairperson Moeller,Vice Chair Kyhn, Commissioner Bigelow, Commissioner Schoenbeck, Commissioner Borey and Commissioner Madrid No: 0 25-026 Consideration of approval of agenda. 25-027 Consideration of approval of regular meeting minutes of December 4, 2024. Attachments: Meeting Minute•-12 4 .4 5. Information and Reports Commissioners shared activities and events they attended such as the Holiday Event, Paints and Pints, the Burro Derby, senior crafts,and others. 6. Staff Report City of Apache Junction,Arizona Page i Parks& Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes February 5, 2025 25-028 Presentation and update on projects and opportunities in the parks and other service areas. Superintendent Dave Butler provided an update to the commission on recent and ongoing projects. He shared that the park lighting improvements have been completed and are now Dark Sky friendly certified as well as the Superstition Shadows Park drainage project is nearing completion. He also presented an overview with drawings of the new Multi-Generational Center's shower conversion project which is slated to start February 24, 2025 He noted it will provide additional showers and be ADA compliant. He concluded by sharing that the team is currently clearing space at the Rodeo Grounds to provide extra parking for Lost Dutchman Days and other events as well as light pole replacements are underway at Superstition Shadows Park. 25-029 Presentation, discussion and update on upcoming events and activities. Recreation Superintendent Jamie Sullivan updated the commission on upcoming events and activities She highlighted the successes of the Holiday Event and Light Parade and discussed upcoming collaborative events, including the Lost Dutchman Marathon and Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo. She shared that pickleball lessons are now being offered at both the Multi-Generational Center and Prospector Park. She concluded by announcing the upcoming Wellness Event and fishing education program with the rangers. 25-030 Introduction of new Youth and Senior Services Coordinator Jody Dutra. Recreation Superintendent Jamie Sullivan introduced the new Youth and Senior Services Coordinator, Jody Dutra to the commission. Jody Dutra took the opportunity to address the commissioners and share details about her career path within the department. 7. Old Business 25-031 Presentation, discussion and update on the Rodeo Grounds. Attachments: Rodeo Fvent Center Master P,an Ccnct!p, FINAL Parks Superintendent Dave Butler updated the commission on the current design phase of Rodeo Grounds Phase 1 and 2. He presented the final Master Plan, along with floor plans for the check-in/first aid building and the maintenance office. Additionally, he showed the design and drawings for the new ramada, which features an added awning pergola and showed the space allocated for the cowboy kitchen. He emphasized the ADA improvement areas and noted that the design phases involved collaboration with Development Services, Apache Junction Police Department, the Fire District, as well as event stakeholders such as the Lost Dutchman Days committee. 8. City of Apache Junction,Arizona page 2 Parks&Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes February 5, 2025 Superstition Boulevard. Commissioner Frank Schoenbeck moved,seconded by Vice Chair Diele Kyhn that the regular session of the Parks and Recreation Commission be held March 5, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. in the city council chambers located at 300 E Superstition Boulevard,Apache Junction.This was approved. Yes: 6- Chairperson Moeller, Vice Chair Kyhn, Commissioner Bigelow, Commissioner Schoenbeck, Commissioner Borey and Commissioner Madrid No: 0 12.
