I.Call to Public
Arizona Open Meeting Law allows individuals to address Commission on any issue within the jurisdiction
of the Commission. Commission may not answer your questions or discuss your comments at this time.
However, at the conclusion of Call to the Public, Commission may do any of the following: 1) respond to
criticism made by any individual who addresses the Commission; 2) ask staff to review a matter; 3) ask
staff to place the matter on a future agenda. Commission shall not discuss or take legal action on
matters raised at Call to the Public unless the matters have been properly noticed for discussion and
legal action. Please stand, approach the podium microphone and state your name and address after
being called to speak. There is a three (3) minute time limit per speaker.
J.Call for Future Agenda Items
At this time Parks and Recreation commissioners or Parks and Recreation staff members are given the
opportunity to suggest a topic or topics to be added to the next or any subsequent agenda of the Parks
and Recreation Commission. No discussion of the topics suggested are to take place at this time

Chairman Standage called the meeting to order at 6:03pm.

Chairman Standage led the Commission in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Staff present included Parks and Recreation Director, Liz Langenbach, Recreation Superintendent,

Consent Agenda 4.
Chairman Standage called for a motion. Commissioner Standage made a motion to accept the
consent agenda items as presented and Commissioner Buzzin seconded the motion.

21-220 Consideration of approval of agenda.
21-221 Consideration of approval of regular meeting minutes of April 7, 2021.
Old Business 5.
Management Analyst, Riley King, presented the final staff recommendations for updates to the Parks
and Recreation Fee Schedule and associated policies. After discussion, Chairman Standage called
for a motion.
Frank Schoenbeck moved that the commission recommend updates to the Apache Junction City
Code, Volume I, Chapter 4: Fees, Article 4-1: Parks and Recreation Fees Schedule, as presented by
staff.

21-219 Presentation, discussion, and final consideration on proposed changes to the
Apache Junction City Code, Volume I, Chapter 4: Fees, Article 4-1: Parks
and Recreation Fees Schedule.
New Business 6.
21-224 Presentation and discussion on sports field lighting.
Parks and Recreation Director, Liz Langenbach presented on the current status of sports field lighting
and future plans for updating lighting to shielded LED lighting.
Call to Public 7.
John Julian, 5330 N. Grand Drive, Apache Junction addressed the commission regarding the
Prospector Park ballfield lights and suggested that corporate sponsors may be a way to help pay for
the lights in the future.
Information and Reports 8.
Vice Chair Borey shared that more parks and recreation flyers and information is needed at the
Chamber/Visitor's Center. Commissioner Schoenbeck shared that Director Langenbach received
recognition at the previous evening's council meeting for 25 years of service. Commissioner Kyhn
attended the COVID vaccination event and commended staff for that event as well as the popularity of
the Movies in the Park at the Rodeo Grounds. Commissioner Moeller mentioned her family's
participation in the Rec Connect activities in the park.
Staff Report 9.
21-217 Presentation and discussion on projects and opportunities in the parks and
other service areas.
Director Langenbach shared that the Request for Bids for Dog Park construction is currently out.
21-218 Presentation, discussion and update on upcoming events and activities.
Director Langenbach shared that the summer brochure for programs was out and that the pool would
be opening for the summer; however, hours at the pool will be reduced due to staffing shortages. All
programs and facilities have minimal COVID mitigation protocols in place.

Vice Chair Borey moved to include an update on the dog park in the next meeting agenda.
