Sponsors:Jamie Sullivan 9.Call to Public Arizona Open Meeting Law allows individuals to address Commission on any issue within the jurisdiction of the Commission. Commission may not answer your questions or discuss your comments at this time. However, at the conclusion of Call to the Public, Commission may do any of the following: 1) respond to criticism made by any individual who addresses the Commission; 2) ask staff to review a matter; 3) ask staff to place the matter on a future agenda. Commission shall not discuss or take legal action on matters raised at Call to the Public unless the matters have been properly noticed for discussion and legal action. Please stand, approach the podium microphone and state your name and address after being called to speak. There is a three (3) minute time limit per speaker. 10.Call for Future Agenda Items At this time Parks and Recreation commissioners or Parks and Recreation staff members are given the opportunity to suggest a topic or topics to be added to the next or any subsequent agenda of the Parks and Recreation Commission. Chair Heather Moeller called the regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission to order at 6:00 p.m. Pledge of Allegiance2. Chair Heather Moeller led in the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll Call3. Chairperson Moeller, Vice Chair Kyhn, Commissioner Bigelow, Commissioner Schoenbeck, Commissioner Borey, and Commissioner Madrid Present 6 - Staff Present: Liz Langenbach, Parks and Recreation Director Jamie Sullivan, Recreation Superintendent Dave Butler, Parks Superintendent Riley King, Management Analyst Julia Feraldi, Aquatics Coordinator Christi Hamm, Senior Administrative Assistant Consent Agenda4. Commissioner Sheryl Bigelow moved that the Parks and Recreation Commission accept the agenda s presented and approve the minutes from the February 5, 2025 regular meeting. Commissioner Frank Schoenbeck seconded the motion. This was approved. Meeting Minutes 2.5.25Attachments: Information and Reports5. Commissioners shared positive experiences about events and activities they attended as well as their volunteer roles with the Lost Dutchman Marathon and Senior Bingo night. Page 1City of Apache Junction, Arizona March 5, 2025Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes Staff Report6. 25-082 Presentation and update on projects and opportunities in the parks and other service areas. Superintendent Dave Butler provided an update to the commission on recently completed projects, those currently being worked on and those upcoming. He shared a photo slideshow of the projects and highlighted the immense effort his teams put into preparing for the last two major events. He also shared the anticipated completion date for the Multi-Generational Center's shower conversion and the expected start date for the new light pole installation project at Superstition Shadows. Additionally, he announced that April 5, 2025, is the scheduled date for the Focal Point's flower switch-out event. 25-083 Presentation, discussion and update on upcoming events and activities. Superintendent Jamie Sullivan updated the commission on recent events. She presented a picture slideshow of recent events and shared that there was a great turnout for the sleepover despite the wind. She also shared that the Lost Dutchman Marathon, and the 10k runs sold out this year. She highlighted the department's representation in the Lost Dutchman Day's Parade and announced the full calendar of events for March with lots of volunteer opportunities for the commissioners. She noted that the Lady Bug Release Event next month will be moved to Flatiron Park. 25-084 Introduction of new Aquatics Coordinator Julia Feraldi. Recreation Superintendent Jamie Sullivan introduced the new Aquatics Coordinator Julia Feraldi. Julia Feraldi spoke to the commission about her career path within the department and shared her excitement about this year's pool season. Old Business7. 25-085 Presentation and update on Tree City USA. Director Liz langenbach updated the commission on Tree City USA. She announced that both applications were accepted and approved which allowed the City of Apache Junction to renew as a Tree City USA recipient and receive the Growth Award. She announced that several staff will be in attendance for this year's Arbor Day ceremony at the State Capitol to receive award. New Business8. 25-086 Presentation and update on construction and future operations of the Prospector Park pickleball expansion. Prospector Park Pickleball Expansion Conceptual DesignAttachments: Superintendent Dave Butler presented the commissioners with the conceptual designs of the new 16 court pickleball expansion for Prospector Park. He shared that there would be a ramada, shade structures throughout, Dark Sky friendly lighted courts, and the plans include one court that is ADA accessible. Management Analyst Riley King updated the commission on the reservation rates, intent on keeping four courts reservable, and ensuring Parks and Recreation programs take priority. She shared research comparisons from surrounding cities for implementing rules and operations of the courts. Jim Bannon (Address given: “Gold Canyon and San Tan”) shared information about his accomplishments and his business and stated he could get us money for projects. Call for Future Agenda Items10. Commissioner Frank Schoenbeck requested that more information on lake fishing programs. Superstition Boulevard. Commissioner Frank Schoenbeck moved, seconded by Commissioner Sheryl Bigelow that the regular session of the Parks and Recreation Commission be held April 2, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. in the city council chambers located at 300 E. Superstition Boulevard, Apache Junction. This was approved.
