Regular Meeting
May 7,1991
A regular meeting of the Apache Junction Library Board of
Trustees was held May 7,1991 at 6:00 p.m.at the Apache Junction
Library pursuant to notice as prescribed by law.

Motion was made by Karen
McFair and seconded by Cindy
Selvy to accept the agenda
with the following changes:
items 4.b.and 5.a.to be
discussed concurrently and
moved to follow item 1,to
accommodate our special
visitor,Joddy McEuen,
Pinal County Librarian.
Motion passed.

review of joint projects that

Pinal County Library
Federation participants have
undertaken,such as the Union
Catalog of holdings of all the
Public Libraries within Pinal
County.She also outlined the
roles and services of the
County Library.Included are
the reference function,the
book deposit function,and the
continuing education function.
Mrs.McEuen explained that the
County is looking at ways to
reduce its tax rate,and that
i t is important for citizens
who support libraries to make
their County Supervisor aware
of their desire to see the
County Library system remain
intact.
She also informed the Board of
the reduction in state grants-
in-aid which will mean less
money being passed through to
the local libraries in the
upcoming budget year.She
stated that there was still a
need to let State legislators
know that libraries need
support at all governmental
levels.
Board members decided to show
their endorsement of the
County Library by directing
the Library Director to draft
a letter to Supervisor Hudson
encouraging continued support
of the existing method of
operation of the Pinal County
Library District and
encouraging increased support

a.Budget update:
at the District level to
replace revenues lost at the
state level.They also
instructed the Library
Director to draft a letter to
the editor of the Independent
to show what the County
Library District means to our
local library and the
citizens of Apache Junction.
Motion was made by Robert
Alger and seconded by Karen
McFair to accept the Minutes.
Roll Call vote taken.Motion
passed.
Pam reported that circulation
was down from last year
possibly because of hours
having been cut back.Six
story hours were conducted
with 136 in attendance.
During National Library Week
there were two puppet shows
with 151 in attendance.
Arizona Library Friends met
here with 40 in attendance.
Quarterly reference survey was
done.Randy Palmer submitted
a letter of resignation.
Pam reported that the budget
was presented to the City
Council on May 6th.The first
budget hearing will be June
18th.On July 2nd,the final
budget will be adopted.

James Lovett and Mary Ann
Webb's terms expire at the end
of June.Talent bank
applications are available.
Library Literacy Link,Special
Education Grant and LSCA Grant
proposals were all explained
by Pam.Karen McFair made a
motion to approve submission
of the grant proposals.
Robert Alger seconded.Roll
Call vote was taken.Passed
unanimously.

budget.
