HomeMy WebLinkAbout1991 10.01 Library MinutesCITY OF APACHE JUNCTION LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES 1177 N.Idaho Road Regular Meeting October 1,1991 A regular meeting of the Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees was held October 1,1991 at 6:00 p.m.at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as prescribed by law. Roll Call -- Present Absent Alger,Robert Lovett,James McFair,Karen Campbell,Josephine Staff:Pamela Loui,Library Director Others Present:Shirley A.Warner Albert E.Pilson Cheryl A.Connolly Pamela J.Rineholt 1.Acceptance of Agenda: 2.Acceptance of Minutes for September 3,1991 Regular Regular Meeting: 3.Librarian's Report: Selvy,Cindy Webb,Mary Ann Motion was made by Josephine Campbell and seconded by James Lovett to accept the agenda. Motion was made by James Lovett and seconded by Karen McFair to accept the minutes. Motion passed. Statistics for September were up from over a year ago. Five story hours were held with 85 in attendance.A couple of tours were given with 15 in attendance.Mother Goose Games was co -sponsored with Parks and Recreation. 100 children attended,which was over double that of last year. City of Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees Regular Meeting October 1,1991 Page 2 4.Old Business: a.Review of talent bank applications: b.Update on magazine subscription campaign: 5.New Business: a.Approval of amnesty period prior to use of collection agency: b.Open Meeting Law and conflict of interest memo from the City Attorney: The Adult Literacy Center is installed.Staff is being trained on the equipment. This is the only public library in the state that has this.The Junction Journal published by the Friends of the Library was distributed. Talent bank applicants were interviewed by the Board. Motion was made by James Lovett and seconded by Robert Alger to nominate Pam Rineholt and Cheryl Ann Connolly to the Board.Roll call vote was taken.Motion was approved for recommen- dation to the City Council. Postponed until next meeting. Motion was made by James Lovett and seconded by Robert Alger to approve October as amnesty month.Roll call vote was unanimous. The City Attorney requested the librarian give each Board member a packet on Open Meeting Law for them to read. There will be a session held in the near future on the Open City of Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees Regular Meeting October 1,1991 Page 3 c.Validity of sending letters for active recruit- ment of Board members: 6.Call to the Public: Meeting Law and Conflict of Interest.Board members should try to attend. The City Clerk was contacted in regards to this.She said there is no prohibition on the books as long as the public is notified by newspaper,cable, etc.ahead of time. Pam Rineholt stated that her understanding of the Open Meeting Law speaker was that it would be opened to the public. 7.Requests for future agenda items:Update on magazine subscrip- tion campaign. 8.Adjournment: President Motion was made by Josephine Campbell and seconded by Karen McFair to adjourn.Meeting adjourned at 6:45.
