Idaho Road Regular Meeting April 7, 1992 A regular meeting of the Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees was held April 7, 1992 at 6:00 p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as prescribed by law. Roll Call -- Present Absent Alger, Robert Campbell, Josephine Connolly, Cheryl McFair, Karen Selvy, Cindy Rineholt, Pamela Staff:Pamela Loui, Library Director 1. Acceptance of Agenda: 2. Acceptance of Minutes for March 3, 1992 Regular Meeting: 3. Librarian's Report: Motion was made by Robert Alger and seconded by Josephine Campbell to accept the agenda. Motion passed. Motion was made by Robert Alger and seconded by Pamela Rineholt to accept the minutes of the March 3, 1992 meeting.Motion passed. Statistics are up from last month and a year ago. There were 16 story hours with 258 attending, 4 films shown with 97 attending.A staff member attended the "Americans with Disabilities" workshop.We have started working on serving the disabled in different ways.We have a magnification unit that will make regular print items usable by patrons that can read only large print. A couple of members of Friends of the Library attended a Friends and Trustees workshop held April 2, 1992, in Tucson.Pamela Loui went to MidCon and attended an "American with Disabilities" session.She saw many City of Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees Regular Meeting April 7, 1992 Page 2 4. Old Business: a.Status report on capital improvement plan: b.Report on magazine subscription campaign: 5.New Business: a. Acceptance of resignation from Jim Lovett and discussion on recruiting candidates for filling the vacancy: b. Public relations and publicity ideas: amazing products for use by the disabled. This is "National Library Week". Cindy Selvy will present a proclamation to the City Council tonight. Nothing to report. Bill Murch has received a letter from WalMart, declining to be a sponsor. Motion was made by Pamela Rineholt and seconded by Robert Alger to accept James Lovett's resignation and to send him a certificate of appreciation.Roll call vote was unanimous. Two previous talent bank applicants will be called to see if they are interested in being considered to fill the vacancy.A notice will be placed in the Independent and Board members are encouraged to solicit candidates. Letter from Library Board of Trustees appeared in newspaper. Jim Files also mentioned the 800 number people should call to support their library.All Board members were given a copy of a memo from George Hoffman, who expressed his regret at not being able to attend the meeting.The Board needs to let the public know they care about the library so the public will let the City Council know.Cindy Selvy reminded the Board of the need to make the public aware that Home City of Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees Regular Meeting April 7, 1992 Page 3 c. Adjournment: Rule needs to pass or things may get worse before they get better. Cindy Selvy will be giving petitions to the City Council and City staff to sign in support of the library.She will hand out book marks and invite them to a puppet show.Petitions containing 445 signatures supporting the library will be turned in at Call to the Public.Board members each selected a member of the City Council to notify of things going on at the library. Needs addendum that was attached to the 1992-93 budget request included:2 full time equivalent clerks, $18,700 for materials, and capital needs totaling $9,160. The Board thanked Elizabeth for all her work and presented her with a plant and card. None present Discuss George Hoffman's memo further. Review applicants for Board vacancy. Meet a staff member and learn what functions each performs to better help the Board understand library operations and services.
