Idaho Road Regular Meeting August 4, 1992 A regular meeting of the Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees was held August 4, 1992 at 6:00 p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as prescribed by law. Roll Call -- Present Absent Alger, Robert Connolly, Cheryl McFair, Karen Selvy, Cindy Rineholt, Pamela Griffing, Jimmy Staff:Pamela Loui, Library Director 1. Acceptance of Agenda: 2. Acceptance of minutes for June 2, 1992 Regular Meeting: 3.Acceptance of minutes for June 30, 1992 Special Meeting: 4. Librarian's Report: Campbell, Josephine Motion was made by Robert Alger and seconded by Cheryl Connolly to accept the agenda. Motion passed. Two new employees started working at the library today.On September 1, the hours will be restored to the original which were 9:00 - 5:00 on Monday, Wednesday & Friday, 9:00 - 8:00 on Tuesday & Thursday, and 9:00 - 1:00 on Saturday. Introduction to Literacy Center services in the library: There were 10 film programs over the summer with 403 in attendance. Two special events were held. 757 children signed up for the Summer Reading Program. A reference count was done the week of July 20.Teen Advisory Board has given a year of service to the Library and should be recognized by the Library Board at their next regular meeting. Denise Keller was introduced to the Board.She explained her duties as Senior Library Assistant. The budget has been adopted.The periodicals, books, and audio-visual accounts were increased over last year's level. It was decided that the Board should go as a group to a City Council meeting to thank them for increasing the library budget to allow for hiring staff to reinstate library hours. Each Board member was reminded of the City Council member he or she agreed to keep informed of library activities.Each Board member will send a letter to that Council member. The plan was adopted.Work is being done on the implementation plan. It looks positive the library will see some type of expansion in two years. Discussion on dissemination of information on services affected by Home Rule: c. Discussion on plans for Lost Dutchman Days parade entry: library.He explained the need for this program and how it got started in Apache Junction.The center was set up in the library in 1989 and has grown since then.There have been up to 15 tutors and 30 students. The Home Rule election, which occurs every four years, is scheduled for March 1993.Failure of the Home Rule provision causes the City to operate under a State -imposed funding limit, regardless of the revenues the City receives.Service levels in General Fund departments such as the library will be negatively impacted by the failure of Home Rule. The Board agreed to have another entry next year.Further discussion to be held at next month's meeting. 7. Call to the Public:No response 8.
