c. Discussion on the role of the Library
Board member in public relations for
the Library:
Pam Loui distributed fliers about
"Surfing the Internet in Apache Junction"
seminar to be held November 27, 1995.
There are a few people registered. We
should try to encourage people to
attend.
There are a lot of people that don't use
the library. For children, it could be the
lack of transportation.For adults it
could be that they don't know what the
public library has to offer.We
brainstormed some ideas on how to
inform the public.Our ideas were:
1. Put fliers all around the city.
2. Get a business person to tell their
library success story or show some
things from the library.

3. Have a newspaper column, like Dear
Abby, where people write in questions.
We might have to make up questions at
first.
4. Have the newspaper write a
continuing article on different aspects
of the library.
5. Have banks mention the library to
business customers.
6. Have fliers about the library services
in the Business Licensing office.
7. Mail information to members of
professional organizations such as the
Rotary's, Elks, Moose and Lions.
These organizations may also help
fund the library.
d. Review of ways for Board members
to keep Council informed of Library
activities:Councihnember Anne Surra thinks all the
council members are kept informed very
well about the library. The library is one
of the success stories for the city.
Anne will lobby on behalf of the library.
She will try to come to the Board
meetings. When unable to attend,Jean
Namsick will keep her informed.
