Regular Meeting
May 7, 1996
A regular meeting of the Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees was held May
7, 1996 at 6:07 p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as prescribed by
law.

Schoeph to accept the agenda.

Pamela Loui has taken over as President
of the Pinal County Library Federation
and will finish the term.Looking at the
monthly statistics for April, the

computer system was loading new
software and was down from April 24 to
May 4 so the numbers are less.Next
month will include these circulations.
We are still getting new patrons even as
the busy season slows down.The
programs all went well.The totals on
"Special Events" needs to be looked at.
The Quarterly Reference survey
conducted showed a good rate of return.
4. Committee Reports:The Public Relations Committee will
meet after our regular meeting in June.
5. Old Business:
a. Update of library budget request
for 1996/97:
b. Progress report on integrated
system:
Pam hasn't met with the City Manager
yet.We reviewed the proposed budget
again and agreed with the necessary
increases.Motion was made by Robert
Alger and seconded by Jean Namsick
to approve the budget proposal and
send it on to the City for approval.
Motion passed unanimous with a roll call
vote.
The new integrated system took a week
and a half to install rather than a
weekend.The public can now use
"Search Plus" and have access to title
and author searches.Subject searches
are not available yet.Other integrated
systems are still being explored that can
do more ie. link to the Internet and to
other libraries.

Services Librarian, on the library's
summer program:
The Friends of the Library sent their
check to purchase the networked version
of "Invest Lab".The computers are
being upgraded to accommodate this.
Spencer and Sherry will be trained on-
site when it's hooked up.
Linda Mount was introduced.She was
hired to replace Derek Monypeny.She
had eight years of library experience in
Michigan.She was familiar with
circulation and cataloging.
The only policy that may need to be
added is an Interlibrary Loan policy
because someone requested an item from
another library that was a Reference item
here.Staff will work on that during the
next year.John Schoeph suggested we
keep our eyes and ears open to new
court decisions and public opinions.
The summer reading program theme is
"Read for the Gold" with a sports
Olympic overtone.When kids register,
they will get a newspaper and a book
bag.They keep track of 15 minutes of
reading in each block.They can win
small rubber balls, coupons, treats,
treasure, bike entries, savings account
of $50, and gift certificates from a book
store.Kids Events will continue on
Tuesdays with movies for pre-schoolers

great.Thursdays will be movie day and
Superstition Mountain Elementary
School will have movies on Wednesdays.
Some of the teens will do tutoring again.
