Regular Meeting
October 1, 1996
A regular meeting of the Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees was held
October 1, 1996 at 6:00 p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as
prescribed by law.

Motion was made by Kendra Griffing
and seconded by Cheryl Connolly to
accept the agenda. Motion passed.
Motion was made by Jean Namsick
and seconded by Pamela Rineholt to
accept the minutes for the September
3, 1996 Regular Meeting.Motion
passed.
Statistics for September similar to
last year.Added many new titles.
Not much weeding except government
documents.Story times with Little
Rec'rs.Increase in Literacy program

5. New Business:
a. Acceptance of letter of resignation
from the Board from Jeanette Hauck:
b. Review of and discussion on three
month event calendar for Library:
usage.December 7 is Library Trustees
Workshop.
None
John Schoeph read a letter of resignation
from Jeanette Hauck. Motion was made
by Pamela Rineholt and seconded by
Jean Namsick to accept Jeanette's
resignation from the Board. Motion
passed unanimous with a roll call vote.
Elizabeth Burks is creating a three
month calendar (October, November,
December).Still waiting on information.
Board will wait for input.
c. Teen Advisory Board annual
report to the Library Board of
Trustees:Nicole Chavez, historian for the Teen
Advisory Board reported there are
nineteen Junior and Senior High
members on the Board. Pam Burgess is
President. Last year they worked on the
float for Lost Dutchman Days, put on
a play at Christmas called "The Polar
Express", do tutoring, worked on the
Summer Reading Program, Library
Olympics,and the Japanese Festival.
They have recruited several new
members.This years Christmas program
will be on December 13th at 7 p.m.

d. Discussion on Lost Dutchman Days
parade entry:
e. Appointments to the Lost Dutchman
Days committee for a library entry:
Pamela Loui said City Manager gave
permission for Library Board to do a
library parade entry.Liz Burks said the
Teen Advisory Board is very interested
in participating.They like to march and
hand out items.Board members support
the idea.Liz will refer back to Teen
Advisory Board.The next TAB meeting
is October 22.The parade will be March
1, 1997.
The three Board members who will be
on the Lost Dutchman Days committee
are Cheryl Connolly, Jean Namsick and
John Schoeph.
f. Discussion on promotional event to
highlight the Library as a community
treasure:Pamela Loui said we could utilize TAB
members to assist with "community
treasure" program.John Schoeph said
the purpose of the event was to stimulate
library usage for various activities/
reasons.He reviewed his suggestions
for possible ideas.Suggested looking for
sponsors for prizes/awards. Need judges
if have essay contests, publicity, award
programs.Work with schools.TAB
member Nicole Chavez shared her
support.Perhaps Spring or Summer
program. Target one age group this
year to start.Use Junior and Senior
High Communications teachers as
resource. Still need to resolve:
1. How we will conduct essay contest.

6. Call to the public:
2. Survey TAB regarding interest.
3. Publicity early March.
4. Contest after Spring break.
5. Posters and flyers (TAB will do).
6. Contact schools when ideas more firm.
Nicole Chavez asked about a list of
suggestions she had given to Elizabeth
Burks.Mrs. Burks said she had
forwarded them to Pamela Loui for
review.
7. Requests for future agenda items:None.
8. Adjournment:Motion was made by Jean Namsick
and seconded by Cheryl Connolly to
adjourn.Meeting adjourned at 6:46 p.m.
