Circulation statistics were lower than a
year ago, although the patron count was
higher. This could be attributed to fewer
popular titles purchased in favor of more
money spent on reference books,people
spending more time on computers,
students visiting the Literacy Lab or
people using the library for other reasons
than checking out books.There were
many successful programs this month
like storytimes, tours and Arizona
Territory.Volunteer hours are
increasing as winter visitors increase.
Decided to go with a "Library
Bookworm" idea.People will be part
of the "Bookworm" or marching
independently.
We're still looking for Bookworm
stickers and hula hoops.$175 - $200
will be needed for supplies.
The Teen Advisory Board would like to
meet with the Community Treasure
Committee.The teens liked the essay
idea and scholarships as prizes.John
Schoeph is checking into that.

a. Discussion on how Home Rule
election may affect the library:
b. Reminder of food for fines program:
c. Sherry Peabody's last day will be
December 10, 1996:
If the Home Rule does not pass, then
Apache Junction cannot spend all the
money that it takes in.It's also called
an "expenditure override".The library
could be cut significantly because it is
not a safety issue.Board members can
continue to act as advocates of the
library and help the public to understand
that Home Rule does not increase taxes,
it just allows money already taken in to
be spent.The State Legislature requires
any money taken in over the state
imposed limit to just sit unless "Home
Rule" is passed.
The Food for Fines begins December
6 and runs thru 23.One dollar is taken
off per canned food item. It's not for
damaged or lost items, only overdue
items returned in good condition.
Apache Junction Reach Out Food Bank
will be receiving the food.
Sherry is going to Rio Salado College
to work. She has done a lot of work
with the Literacy Lab since she started in
March, 1996.The new position will be
filled after the holidays and after Pamela
Loui and Spencer Paden decide what
the new person needs to do.
