November 4, 1997
A regular meeting of the Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees was held
November 4, 1997 at 6:05 p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as
prescribed by law.

Motion was made by Barbara Gardner
and seconded by John Schoeph to accept
the agenda.Motion passed.

Inputting of codes into the Dynix system
began today.Pam Loui and Karen Rauls
were trained on the new acquisitions
module for the Dynix system last week.
We have had some unexpected problems
with the new system since we are a

4. Old Business:
a.Discussion of by-laws and/or
appointment of a by-laws review
committee:
Beta test site for Windows NT.The
system should be up for patron use by
January 1, 1998. We will continue to use
Baker & Taylor for orders and will use
their automated records-.The first order
has been sent.A new librarian, Linda
Konopitsld, began work today.
Recruitment will soon begin for a Library
Clerk I and a part-time Secretary.This
week is conference and will be attended
by Pam Loui, Liz Burks, Dawn Van
Horn and Trish Pelletier.Spencer begins
his MIS responsibilities after the le.He
will still be assisting with the Dynix
system.Circulation has increased from
last month but is down from last year.A
reference count was included in the
September statistics.Adult film festival
participation has been low.It is now
suspended awaiting repair or replacement
of the video projection system.The
library remains active with tours,
storytimes, and school visits.Seventh
graders from Desert Shadows School
visited today.The question of
acquisition of videos was brought up.
Pam Loui explained that we mainly use
Ingram, Costco and specialty companies
to purchase them.We do not depend on
donations because of the unreliability of
their condition.
Discussion included whether the
involvement of the city attorney was
needed. The main concern was that of
clarifying the language.President

b.Discussion on the Coolidge joint
meeting letter:
Gardner and Peter Nolan to the
committee.Report to be made next
month on expected time frame for
changes.
Pamela Rineholt read both letters from
the Coolidge Library Board.A tentative
date of Saturday, February 7 at 10:00
a.m. has been scheduled.All members of
the board will be able to attend with the
exception of Kendra Griffing.Pam
Rineholt will send a letter of acceptance.
A posting needs to be made of a special
meeting.
c.Discussion on library policies and /or
appointment of a policies review
committee:Proposed policy changes were printed in
bold.The staff reviews and proposes the
changes and then it is sent on to the
board and then to the city council.
Discussion also took place regarding the
current internet policy and interne use.
President Pamela Rineholt appointed
John Schoeph, Millie Little and Joyce
Poteet to the committee.
5. New Business:
a.Teen Advisory Board annual report
to the Library Board of Trustees:Librarian Liz Burks introduced co-chairs
Pam and Tonya to the board.They
reported that last year's activities were
the Christmas play, Lost Dutchman Days
parade entry and two summer reading
programs.This year they are having a
Christmas play, will participate in the
Lost Dutchman Days and are beginning
to plan for the summer reading

b.Discussion on Lost Dutchman Days
parade entry:
programs.They have approximately 20
members this year.The board consists of
students from 7th through12th grade.
Members of the Teen Advisory Board
are recruited from the Library Team by
invitation.The Library Board
commended the Teen Advisory Board on
the work they do.
The Teen Advisory Board will again be
in the parade.They will have individuals
dressed up as storybook characters.The
bookworm will also be in the parade.
Library Director Pam Loui reported that
the bookworm had been in a parade in
Kearny where it won a prize.They have
been invited to a parade in Superior.
