Regular Meeting
December 2, 1997
A regular meeting of the Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees was held
December 2, 1997 at 6:05 p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as
prescribed by law.

Motion was made by Barbara Gardner
and seconded by John Schoeph to
accept the agenda. Motion passed.
Motion was made by Joyce Poteet
and seconded by John Schoeph to
accept the minutes for the November
4, 1997 Regular Meeting with the
correction of the misspelling of Schoeph
in item #4.Motion passed.

3. Librarian's Report:
4. Old Business:
Pam passed out the newly typed
introduction that was given to new
members.A Victorian Christmas
program will be at the library on Friday,
December 12 at 7 p.m.It will feature the
Dickens' Carolers and a play by the Teen
Advisory Board.Free tickets are
available at the circulation desk.Two
library employees are leaving.Dawn
Van Horn's last day will be on December
18thand Jennifer Sanders-Rivette's last
day will be on December 30th.We are
currently working with Dynix support to
overcome any problems that we have
experienced with the software.The
statistics for November are down from
the same month last year and are down
from last month.The backlog in
cataloging may be part of the problem.
We are currently working on getting the
new system up and running_ The
storytimes and tours continue.The
literacy lab remains active.
a.Update on Coolidge Library Board
joint meeting:Pamela Rineholt is sending them a letter.
5. New Business:
a.Discussion on Internet access and
policy issues:Discussion and explanation of various
tools and software programs available for
internet usage.Questions as to whether

b.Update on the US West Foundation
Grant entitled:Teens N Technology
c.Report on AzLA Conference
d. Set timeline for By-laws Committee
e. Set timeline for Policies Review
Committee
f.Volunteer Recognition Luncheon
the library board or city council would
write an internet policy. Also a
discussion on the ALA guidelines and
selection processes.Issues may change
as the internet develops. Explanation that
the library's computer system is the basis
for the planned city-wide network.It
will be operated at the network level by
the city's MIS team.
Karen Rauls will be taking the place of
Dawn Van Horn as staff representative.
The training will be the week of February
23rd.
Pam Loui attended three seminars which
she found beneficial.They were:
Planning for results,. Ride the wave to
continual improvement and How web
filtering works.Barbara Gardner visited
Estrella Community College during the
conference and was impressed as to how
their library is moving into the future.
Barbara Gardner and Peter Nolan have
met and have done revisions.Discussion
on the by-laws to take place at the next
board meeting.
John Schoeph will meet with other
committee members during the month of
December to set up a time line.
Will be held on January 9, 1998.Library
Board members are asked to attend to
help in the recognition of the volunteers.
