April 7, 1998
A regular meeting of the Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees was held April
7, 1998 at 6:03 p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as prescribed by
law.

Motion was made by Barbara Gardner
and seconded by Peter Nolan to
accept the agenda. Motion passed
unanimously.
Motion was made by Kendra Grilling
and seconded by Peter Nolan to
accept the minutes for the March
3, 1998 Regular Meeting.Motion
passed unanimously.

Continuing discussion on computer
use policy.
7. New Business:
a.Report on the U.S. West
Foundation Grant classes on the
Internet and Word Processing.
b.Update on the Dynix system
upgrade to version 171.
currently looking at the best ways to
reach people. They are going to contact
Welcome Wagon about distributing
brochures to new residents.
Book circulation is down from the
previous year but audio and video
circulation is up.Patron visits have
increased perhaps due to patrons using
other sources in the library.There will
be an increase in withdrawals over the
next months as the staff proceeds with
deletions carried over from Follett.The
various programs remain popular.The
RIF picnic had 250 participants.
The Arizona State House is currently
working on HB 2455 which would
require a filter for computers accessible
by minors.The Senate Family Services
is meeting on April 8, 1998 to discuss
internet filter use.The board is awaiting
legislative action before amending the
current policy.
During the month of March there were
16 classes with 88 participants.The
classes are popular. There are more
classes scheduled for April. They are full
and there are approximately 25 people on
waiting lists for each class.
Version 170 has been loaded and we are
awaiting version 171.

Library Endowment Fund project.

the 1998/99 budget request.

The response has not been as anticipated.
The committee will be contacting those
who were sent letters but have not yet
responded.The fund currently has
$1200 toward the goal of $5000.The
committee will approach local businesses
about donations.There was some
discussion about approaching
MountainBrook and Gold Canyon
residents in the future.
Pam Loui reported that $50,000 of the
book budget has been expended at this
time and that $17,000 has been
encumbered.The need for reference
books is high. Funds may be needed for
the maintenance of the library computers.
The discussion has been tabled until the
next board meeting.
Pam Loui will contact the City Clerk to
verify terms expiring this year.
