b.Discussion on computer classes being
More approachable for people over 60:
and video games to play. The Game
Day was the largest program and a lot of
the teens want to do it again.Several
Book Discussion Groups were held.
This group meets every month for an
hour discussion.He also reported that
the Teen Advisory Board has put
together a newsletter that goes out to all
TAB members and is available for
anyone in the community.
Plans for a Christmas play or puppet
show for children are being worked on at
this time. The Teen Advisory Board is
considering having a fourth Teen Chat
Café.The group is also planning to
have a float in the Lost Dutchman Days
parade.
Scott Gardiner reported that he was
approached by several seniors who
commented on how they felt about the
computer training at the Library.
One man had difficulty using the PAC
computer and was too embarrassed to
ask a library staff member for help.
Two women were reluctant to take the
computer training.
People tend to forget what they learned
and do not want to take the class a
second time.
Pamela Loui reported that 90% - 95% of
the students in the computer classes fall
into the senior category and the

c.Discussion on Library Legislative Day,
January 25, 2001 and involvement of
Library Board members in it:
evaluations turned in by them were very
positive.
Scott suggested that reference cards be
placed next to the PACs so patrons could
see, step-by-step, how to operate the
computers to find what they want. All
members agreed to this action.
Some other suggestions were that more
publicity be given on the availability of
the computers, give library tours to the
senior population, and create a video
showing the computer classes in
progress.
Pamela Loui stated that the Library
Legislative Day was on Thursday,
January 25, 2001, at the State Capitol.If
the same program as last year is
followed there will be a reception in the
morning with refreshments.Legislators
will be invited to come and mingle with
the library staff, board members and
Friends members. Then there will be a
number of speakers.In late morning
there will be an opportunity to go to the
Representatives from your area to
present the important issues of the
library.Last year there was the request
for the State to increase their State
Grants In Aid.Even though last year
was a non -funding year, they were still
able to get it passed and got some dollars
assigned to it.This year is a funding
year and they are going back and asking
for $1 million. The more we can get the
State to increase its funds to libraries the

better for our library, especially since the
federal government no longer funds the
brick and mortar projects.Pam then
encouraged Library Board Members to
attend and to let her know if they plan on
attending.
Scott Gardiner requested a list of

list showing Representatives likely to be
influential in supporting a statewide
project. These lists will be ready at the
