Regular Meeting
January 2, 2001
A regular meeting of The Board of Trustees of Apache Junction Public Library was
held January 2, 2001 at 6:02 p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as
prescribed by law.

The question of accepting the agenda
was placed before the Board and was
accepted by general consent.
The question of accepting the minutes
for the December 5, 2000 Regular
Meeting was placed before the Board
and was accepted by general consent.
None.
Pam Loui reported that book circulation
was up from last year and the other
circulations were substantially up over
one year ago.She commented that this
is a reflection of a growing collection.

Patron visits increased along with new
patrons.
98 books were withdrawn from the
collection but very few audio and
videocassettes were removed.
Volunteer Hours were at 487 for the
month.
The family program entitled,"Holiday
Harmony" had 102 attending.Pam
reported that this was considerably less
than last year.
The Teen Advisory Board presented
"The Baker's Dozen" and 223 attended.
Four Peaks Elementary School brought
some classes to see this play.
Adult events included 21 computer
classes with 148 participating, 2 public
access catalog classes and 4 meetings of
the Writers Club.Pam stated that she
would check on the number of attendees
at the Writer's Club since the report
shows "0".One Brown Bag Program on
Genealogy was held with 66 attending.
Two events that were held in November
and not reported on at the December
meeting were a Rotary Club visit on
November 28 th with 26 attending and
one Citizen's Leadership Institute heldNovember 30 th with 24 attending.
The Literacy Program had 37 student
visits and 86 student hours.

Expansion and consultant selection
Process:
Pam Loui handed out registration forms
and reminded the Board members that
Library Legislative Day is coming up on
Thursday, January 25 th.Breakfast with
the Legislators will be at 7:30 a.m.
Registration is only needed if you are
planning on attending the breakfast.
Pam stated that she plans to attend this
event but if it is not possible, another
library representative will go.She
suggested that if Board members cannot
attend, they write to the Legislators and
let them know what is going on with the
library.
Barbara Gardner suggested the board
draft a letter to all of the Legislators.It
was decided to send a letter from the
Library Board after Legislative Day.
Andrea Hinkel encouraged individual
letters to go before January 25 th.
Pam Loui reported that a "Notice
Inviting Statement of Qualifications for
Architectural/Engineering Services" has
been drafted and will be reviewed by the
City Attorney.When all is in order, it
will be sent to the City Clerk's office to
be posted.This is to get consulting for
renovation of existing library space and
possible construction of additional space
to comply with the current architectural
model.Architects will need to submit
space plan concepts, a preliminary
budget and presentation drawings to

meeting day:

a.Reminder of Volunteer Recognition
Event being held January 12, 2001:
present to the Board and to the Council
when this phase is completed.
Pam Loui reported that she spoke with
the City Council on December 18 th about
a City Code revision of the times the
library board must meet and they seemed
agreeable to the change.She also stated
that an ordinance revision has been
drafted and is being sent to the City
Attorney and City Clerk for approval.
The ordinance revision will then be sentto Council on January i e .Pam
suggested that the board members
submit their choice of meeting date and
time to Carol before the April, 2001
board meeting.
Pam Loui reminded the board of the
upcoming Volunteer Recognition Event
being held on January 12, and invited
board members to attend.The event
starts at 9:00 a.m. and to please R.S.V.P.
Andrea Hinkel stated that she attended
this event last year and enjoyed it.She
stated that she is planning on attending
again this year.
