Regular Meeting
January 9, 2003
A regular meeting of The Board of Trustees of Apache Junction Public Library was
held January 9, 2003, at 6:01 p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as
prescribed by law.

The question of accepting the agenda for the
January 9, 2003, regular Meeting was placed
before the Board and was ,accepted by
general consent.

4.Correspondence and Communications:None.
5.Librarian's Report:City Council voted to remove Pamela Stoelk
from the Library Board of Trustees at the
January 7 th City Council meeting, due to
non-attendance.Pam Loui has written a
letter to Pamela Stoelk to notify her of her

6. Old Business:
a.Follow-up on discussion
of the USA PATRIOT Act
and consideration of possible
language to incorporate into
library guidelines outlining
the appropriate staff response
removal from the Board and to thank Ms.
Stoelk for her participation.
Monthly Report statistics for December are
as follows:Books, audio/visual and video
materials have, all increased from last year.
Many items have been added to the
collection, while many books have been
withdrawn to make way for new books.
There were fewer programs held in
December due to the holidays.There was a
holiday storytime with 70 attendees and
babytime had 4 presentations with a total of
49 in attendance. There were 5 presentations
of the Polar Express with 301 attendees.
This program was produced and performed
by the teens.Adult events included a
presentation of the "This N'That Book
Club" with seven in attendance.A
presentation by Author, Betty Webb had 28
attendees and a special Christmas program
was done by the Sweet Adelines with 48
attendees. There were 4 sessions of the
Writers Club, five computer classes with 41
in attendance and six PIT stops.There were
2 neighborhood meetings with a total of 185
attendees.
Pam handed out a draft on Staff Guidelines
for how to deal with Law Enforcement
inquiries as related to the USA Patriot Act.
Staff members will be required to redirect
the inquiries to the Library Director, Library
Manager, or person in charge.The person in
charge should immediately notify the City
Attorney and provide only the information
that has been requested if there is a search
warrant.

Pam would like a letter in writing from those
members who would like to be considered
for reappointment.
Pam notified the Board that Library
Legislative Day will be February 6, 2003.
Pam will be attending with the County
Librarian.If anyone is interested in
attending they should contact Pam within
the next couple of days. Pam will provide a
follow-up report at the next Board meeting.
Pam reminded the Board of the Volunteer
Recognition event to be held on January 25,
2003 at the Senior Center.Brunch will be
provided.
Liz Burks discussed putting together a
program where teens could be trained to
show reptiles or artifacts to children.A
similar program was put on by the Tucson
Public Library.Liz will be contacting the
Superstition Mountain Historical Society to
discuss further plans for this program.
