Regular Meeting
August 12, 2004
A regular meeting of The Board of Trustees of Apache Junction Public Library
was held August 12, 2004 at 6:00 p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice
as prescribed by law.

The question of accepting the agenda for the
August 12, 2004, regular Meeting was
placed before the Board.Beverly Kimball
Wright made a motion to accept the agenda.
Theresa Nesser seconded the motion. All
members present were in favor.
The question of accepting the minutes for
the May 13, 2004, regular Meeting was
placed before the Board. Joyce Payne made
a motion to accept the minutes.Stephen
Flynn seconded the motion. All members
present were in favor.
The question of accepting the minutes for
the June 10, 2004, regular Meeting was
placed before the Board.Theresa Nesser
made a motion to accept the minutes.
Michael Klatt seconded the motion.All
members present were in favor.

a.Budget update for 2004/05.

a.Meet library staff member.
The question of accepting the minutes for
the June 29, 2004, special Meeting was
placed before the Board.Theresa Nesser
made a motion to accept the minutes.Joyce
Payne seconded the motion.All members
present were in favor.
None.

Pam will be attending a special session on
August 30 th to present the current Library
Plan to other libraries interested in putting
together their own plan.Pam reviewed
statistics for May, June and July.Nearly all
of the circulation statistics categories
showed increases over the same month in
the previous year.
Pam handed out the Council adopted Library
budget information for the 2004/05 fiscal
year.The Council approved the addition of
a part-time processing assistant to begin in
October.
Margaret Meza — Margaret is a Library
Assistant and has been with the Library
about 3 years.Margaret previously worked
for the Library in Superior for 6 years.
Margaret works in the Youth Services
Department.Her duties include: planning
and participating in children programs, Start
Smart and Community Resources and
Family Place.Margaret handles the Spanish
collection and also helps translate for
Spanish speaking patrons.

b.Update on the annual
reference count for the
2003/04 Library Board
Annual Report.Reference inquiries as discussed in the June--th1 9 Special Meeting were incorrectly
reported.The corrected figure of 58,695
inquiries was included in the bound copies
of the Library Board Annual Report that
were distributed to City Council prior to
their July 5, 2004 meeting.
c.Update oi.the April 2004
monthly report to include the
quarterly reference count.The quarterly reference count for April was
inadvertently omitted from the April 2004
monthly report. A revised copy of the April
monthly report was provided to show the
count.
d.Update from Youth Services
Department on Library
Summer programs.
e.Election of Officers.
Margaret reported on the summer programs
for the Youth Services department.Total
registrations were 2,080 compared to last
year's registrations of 1,867.This is an
increase of 213. The number of participants
who completed the program was 768.
Summer presentations included magician
Scooter Scott, Diamondbacks organist
Bobby Freeman and pitcher Mike Koplove.
Additional programs included the American
Girls Tea, and "Dive into Dinosaurs" which
included beautiful paintings of a variety of
dinosaurs and a paper mache dinosaur
created by Friends of the Library Volunteer,
Marcy Belzner.
Beverly Kimball Wright nominated Rhonda
Jackson for President.A second was made
by Michael Klatt.Rhonda Jackson accepted
the nomination.A vote was taken and
passed unanimously. Theresa Nesser
nominated Michael Klatt for Vice -President.
The second came from Stephen Flynn.
Michael Klatt accepted the nomination.A
vote was taken and passed unanimously.

unanimously.
Acting President, Rhonda Jackson, read a
letter of resignation from Board member,
Stephen Flynn.The Library Board
acknowledged his resignation effective
August 30, 2004.

interested in doing a Library Plan.
New Business.
Meet Library staff member.
Empower Grant update.
Discussion of 1 hour time limitation on
computers.
