Regular Meeting
April 13, 2006
A regular meeting of The Board of Trustees of Apache Junction Public Library was held
April 13, 2006 at 6:10 p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as
prescribed by law.With the President absent, Vice President Theresa Nesser conducted
the meeting.

The question of accepting the agenda for the
April 13, 2006, regular Meeting was placed
before the Board and was accepted by
general consent.
The question of accepting the minutes for
the March 9, 2006, regular Meeting was
placed before the Board and was accepted
by general consent.
None.
A Community Health and Wellness
Assessment will take place on May 10,
2006.The City is currently looking for
citizens that would be interested in
participating including representatives from
the local business community and local
organizations.Pam said to notify her if
interested in being invited.

library building project.•

Senior Center space.
3.Report on Library Budget
Proposal for Fiscal Year
2006/07.
Pam reviewed statistics for the monthly
report that showed books, magazines, and
video categories have declined while audio
materials, Start Smart collection, and
computer use have increased compared to
those of one year ago.Total circulations
exceeded those for a year ago.
- We had a pre -submittal meeting with some
contractors.The City. is looking at a process
called CM@Risk which is where the
construction manager/contractor will be
brought on early in the process to work with
the architects and the project manager.The
building as it currently exists and the
-addition that is being planned include a great
deal of construction that will have to take
place while we continue to offer Library
services.It is very important that the project
run as smoothly as possible.By having the
contractor at the beginning it is hoped that
there will be minimal disruption while the
building is being built.Library staff
members have had another meeting with the
architects to discuss ideas on the schematic
design.
We have selected a carpet for the kitchen
and office area.Approximate delivery is 4
weeks.Once installation is completed we
will open up that area for the public to use
their laptops.
Pam has heard nothing since she has turned
in the budget request.

Meet Susan Walker.Susan is the Adult
Services Librarian. She also supervises the
computer lab and reference area.Susan
orders fiction books and books on cds and
she has been with the Library for over 8
years.In addition, Susan puts together the
volunteer recognition events and handles the
orientation for new volunteers.
Pam attended the conference in
Boston and reported on some of the
topics.presented.
Computer Technician, John Fe1dt provided a
demonstration of the Overdrive database
containing downloadable audio books and
e -books.Overdrive can be used from your
home computer and enables you to
download audio books and e -books for a
period of 21 days.You have the ability to
check out 10 books at a time.Access to this
database adds approximately 7500 books to
the Library's collection without the need of
shelf space.
