Idaho Road Regular Meeting August 10, 2006 A regular meeting of The Board of Trustees of Apache Junction Public Library was held August 10, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as prescribed by law.With the President absent, Vice President Theresa Nesser conducted the meeting. Roll Call Present Absent Everett Deidiker Theresa Nesser Rhonda Jackson Pamela Kantowski Terri Parker Janice Stenglein Lori D'Amico Staff: Pamela Loui, Library Director C. Acceptance of Agenda: D. Acceptance of minutes for June 8, 2006 regular Meeting and June 26, 2006 special Meeting: The question,of accepting the agenda for the August 10, 2006, regular Meetingwas placedbefore the Board.. The question of accepting the minutes for the June 8, 2006, regular Meeting and June 26, 2006 Special Meeting was placed before the Board. Vice President Theresa Nesser read a letter to the Board that was received from Lori D'Amico resigning from her position on the Library Board. Pam reviewed statistics for the monthly report and showed that some categories have increased while some declined compared to those of one year ago. Pam explained that the self -check system has a different way of counting audio and video statistics by title rather than by the piece, so statistics will be considerably lower for these categories. The public is also new to using the self check machines, and we are aware of instances where patrons have not properly operated them so statistics are affected by that as well. We are working on correcting the issues with the patrons' use of self check. Pam presented the Design and Development package received from Richard and Bauer. Tess Nesser asked if the walls of the adult collections section would be painted in the remodel.Pam said she did City of Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees Regular Meeting Page 3 2. Update and discussion on development of the former Senior Center space. not know, it would likely stay white.We would have to get the pricing completed to know.Everett stated he would like to see once where the actual price was underneath the estimate. Terri stated it was nice to see something tangible. Everett said it would be nice to see a model.All seemed pleased with the plans shown. Pam reported that there will be no more changes to the former Senior Center for some time. 3. Report on Library Budget Proposal for Fiscal Year 2006/07.Pam reported that the budget was adopted. New staff positions requested will begin in October. I.New Business: 4. Meet new Library Board member.Pamela Kantowski stated that she is very happy to be a part of the Library Board. 5. Meet new library staff . member.Meet Trish Pelletier.Trish is Head of Technical Services and has been with the Library for 20 years. Update from Youth Services Department On Library Summer Reading. team and puts together the newsletter for the City Mascot who travels around to find out each department's function.Trish was recently the only public library paraprofessional in the nation to receive a grant from ALCTS/SAGE (Association for Library Collections and Technical Services) to attend the ALA (AMerican Library Association) conference in New Orleans.. While she was there Trish was able to volunteer at a school library to assist in post -Katrina clean up of the City. 'The Teen' progratHAiqs entitled :‘Re4d your way to the Treasure," created by some of the Teen Advisory Board members. There were 414 teens registered for this program. All 212 movie tickets were given out and several workshops were also provided including art exploration and scrapbooking. The average summer movie attendance was 75. Terri accepted the nomination. A vote was taken and passed unanimously. Terri Parker nominated Janice Stenglein for office of Vice President. A second was made by Pamela Kantowski. Janice accepted the nomination. A vote was taken and passed unanimously. Theresa Nesser nominated Rhonda Jackson for office of Secretary.
