December 14, 2006
A .regular meeting of The Board of Trustees of Apache
Junction Public Library was held December 14, 2006 at 6:04
p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as
prescribed by law.

I. Old Business:
1. Update and discussion
on library building
project.
The question of accepting the
minutes for the November 9,
regular Meeting was placed
before the Board. Everett
Deidiker made a motion to
accept the minutes. Pamela
Kantowski seconded the
motion.All members present
were in favor.
Edward Hall is a winter
visitor with a general
delivery address in Apache
Junction.He would like the
Board to change the rule
regarding having to pay for a
temporary card to use the
computer. He has to purchase
one each week.
None.
Director Pam Loui reviewed
statistics for the October
and November monthly reports
and showed that some
categories have increased
while some declined compared
to those of one year ago.
We are still in the
construction documents phase
of the building project so we
are not having regular team
meetings. Pam Loui will
provide an update to the
Board at the next meeting.

2. Meet library staff
member.
3.Friends of the
Library Report
Meet Amy Fitch.Amy has been
with the library for 8 years
as a full-time employee. Amy
is a Technical Services
Clerk.Some of her job
duties include receiving new
materials and entering new
material information into the
computer. Amy assists in
maintaining the paperback
collection by replacing,
purchasing and withdrawing
items from the collection.
She handles donations and
fills out replacement slips
for damaged or lost items. In
addition, Amy works a minimum
of 11 hours on the
circulation desk each week.
Phyliss Niemela is the
President of the Friends of
the Library and co -runs the
gift shop.Phyliss brought
many gift shop items to show
and reported that the recent
book sale brought in
$3,666.00. The Friends of the
Library meets the second
Tuesday of each month from
October through April.
4.GASP update and
method to redefine
the library.Board members discussed their
concept ideas for Library
graphics,ambience,style,and
presentation, "PArrOgill be
taking the condepts from the
Board inembeTaTand:Friends of
the Library and putting them
all :together in..one document.

5.Discussion on the
feasibility of allowing
out -of -county customers
the option of performing
.volunteer work for the
Library to "earn"
a Library card.
6.Discussion and
possible vote to
change future
meeting time for
Library Board
meetings.
Tess asked that this be on
the agenda but said that
after talking with staff she
sees that although someone
may volunteer in an attempt
to earn their library card,
that they may not be able to
do the required volunteer
work.Pam pointed out that
the Library does not use
every person who fills out a
volunteer application, but .
only those whose skills make.
them useful to library jobs
that are available.
Volunteers require training
and supervision that is done .

Due to difficulty of some
Library Board members to get
to the meetings by 6:00 p.m.,
it was suggested to change
the starting time of the
regular Library Board
meetings to 6:30 p.m.A
motion was made by Everett
Deidiker to change the
meeting time from 6:00 p.m.
to 6:30 p.m commencing in
January of 2007. Pamela
Kantowski seconded the
