Idaho Road Regular Meeting January 10, 2008 A regular meeting of The Board of Trustees of Apache Junction Public Library was held January 10, 2008 at 6:34 p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as prescribed by law. President Tess Nesser appointed Rhonda Jackson as acting secretary. Roll Call Present Janice Stenglein Everett Deidiker Lois Eldridge Rhonda Jackson Pamela Kantowski Theresa Nesser Absent Terri Parker Staff: Pamela Loui, Library Director Sancie Lee -Brown, Administrative Assistant C. Acceptance of Agenda: D. Acceptance of minutes for December 13, 2007 regular Meeting: The question of accepting the agenda for the January 10, 2008 regular Meeting was placed before the Board.All members present were in favor. The question of accepting the minutes for the December 13, 2007 regular Meeting was placed before the Board. Rhonda Jackson made a motion to accept the minutes. Lois Eldridge seconded the motion. Update and discussion on library building project. All members present were in favor. None. None. Pam Loui told of the great success of the volunteer recognition event. Pam discussed •the monthly report and stated that most categories increased in use compared to those of one year ago. Pam Loui discussed that the opening of the new area is semi operational. We are still waiting on some work to be completed on the teen area and for furniture to complete the Mountain View room. The back parking lot area is complete.Next will come the remodeling of the lobby and old circulation area.We are looking at about 1 month before the lobby reopens. The East wing will then close for remodeling. 7 Di"scussion:on creating time capsule.Pam Loui talked to Parks and Recreation Director, Jeff Bell. Three time capsules •have been done for the City.,. One for 10 years, made out of pvc pipe, 20 years made out of copper pipe and 25 years made out of silver. Meet library staff member. inches in diameter and is housed indoors.Library Board members •discussed that the time capsule focus on the library only and that it be kept inside the building in a protected space. Many suggestions were made for types of things to add to the time capsule.Pam will check with the CpRE Construction superintendant to attempt to find a place in the Library to house the time capsule and get back to the Board at the next meeting. Pam Loui discussed Providence .Associates' recommendation for .a 21,500 sq. ft branch in the future.Rhonda Jackson made a motion to approve the "Branch Library Space Needs Plan" to be forwarded to the City Council and Administration with additional specific recommendations of the Board to follow.Pam Kantowski seconded the motion. All members present were in favor. Meet Rachelle Armstrong. Rachelle is a Library" Page and has been working for the Library since April. Rachelle shelves and organizes books and works at check -in.Rachelle is a high school senior and enjoys helping patrons find what they are looking for. City of Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees Regular Meeting Page 4 Rachelle would like to see more teen events announced at the grade school, middle school and high school levels.Getting the word out to school -age children may get them interested in coming to the library.
