A regular meeting of The Board of TruStees of Apache
Junction Public Library was held April 10, 2008 at 6:35
p.m.. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as
prescribed by law.

on library building
project.
All members present were in
favor.

Pam Loui noted that Library
Legislative Day has been
scheduled for Thursday, April
17 th from -9:00 a.m. - 4:00
p.m. Please notify Pam Loui
after the meeting if you wish
to attend. Pam discussed the
monthly report and stated
that some categories
increased in use compared to
those of one year ago.
Pam Loui discussed the
progress in the building.
Work continues on the Quiet
Reading Room and the new
staff lounge is now
completed. There is a new
playground structure in the
courtyard area but this will
probably be the lasttp,ppen.

we alert the local newspaper
right before the grand
opening so that they can do
an article and take some good
pictures that can be added to
the capsule. Pam will check
to see if the space where the
capsule will be placed can be
made temporary until after
the grand opening to allow
for the article.
After a brief review there
was general agreement that
further discussion of this
topic is not needed at this
time since there may be many
changes between now and when
a branch is actually
constructed.
Meet Tracie:Compton.Tracie
introduced the newest devices
for library patrons called
"playaways." Playaways are
small MP3 audiobook players.
They require only the use of
your own headphones and
batteries to listen to your
favorite book.

order is the Kurzweil 3000.
Tracie Compton shared some
information about the
Kurzweil 3000. This software
product is a state of the art
text to voice and word
processing program.It can
access any information in
print, electronic, or online
formats. It also converts
written text into synthesized
speech, helping patrons
increase reading speed and
comprehension.It is
especially helpful for
patrons who are dyslexic and
for slow readers.
6.ADA procedure for
Kurzweil 3000 machine The Library Board discussed
.the procedures and
information document for the
Kurzweil 3000. Everett
Deidiker made a motion to
•approve the procedure for the
in -library use of the
Kurzweil 3000 machine.The
motion was seconded by Janice
Stenglein.The motion
passed.
