Idaho Road Regular Meeting December 10, 2009 A regular meeting of The Board of Trustees of Apache Junction Public Library was held December 10, 2009 at 6:32 p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as prescribed by law. Roll Call Present Absent Everett Deidiker Rhonda Jackson Dr. Jon Lokensgard Theresa Nesser Loretta Nielsen Janice Stenglein Marie DePalma Staff: Spencer Paden, Library Manager Sancie Lee -Brown, Administrative Assistant C. Acceptance of Agenda: D. Acceptance of Minutes for October 8, 2009 regular Meeting. E. Call to the Public: The question of accepting the agenda for the December 10, 2009 regular Meeting was placed before the Board. All members present were in favor. The question of accepting the minutes for the October 8, 2009 regular Meeting was placed before the Board. Rhonda Jackson made a motion to accept the minutes. Jon Lokensgard seconded the motion. All members present were in favor. Colleen Hill attended. Colleen is a current Board member for Planning and City of Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees Regular Meeting Page 2 F. Correspondence and Communications: G. Librarian's Report: H. Old Business: I. New Business: 1. Friends of the Library Report. Zoning. Before the meeting Colleen was given a tour by Library Board member Loretta Nielsen.She really liked the tour and stated "keep up the good work." None. Spencer Paden reviewed the monthly report for October and November.He explained that in late October the software migration from Horizon to Polaris created incongruous statistics in some categories. Modifications have been made and we should be able to see better comparative data in the future. None. Phyllis Niemela is the President of the Friends of the Library. She stated that it was a great summer.The Friends made more money this past summer than they have ever made any other summer. Phyllis let everyone know that paperbacks are in need at the bookstore and tiles are still being sold. Phyllis prepares a newsletter every month or so that provides updates about materials needed and any sales going on in the bookstore.Library staff City of Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees Regular Meeting Page 3 2. Meet library staff member. currently has a few special requests.They are in need of someone to facilitate children's book clubs.They are also in need of duplo and lego blocks.There are 18 active members with the Friends of the Library. Current sales include biographies, ancient books and Christmas related material.Bookstore cards were passed out.These cards help in getting the word out to the public about the book store.They are good for $1.00 off materials in the bookstore.Loretta Nielsen commented that the Friends of the Library are doing a great job. Anyone with questions may contact the library at FriendsoftheLibraryaj@hotmail .corn. Meet Jeremy Berini. Jeremy works as a part-time Library Page. Jeremy shelves books, answers phones, retrieves backdrops and assists patrons to find materials.Jeremy started as a youth volunteer and has been working for the Library for 2 years. Jeremy currently attends Mesa Community College and is also a musician who plays the guitar and sings.He has also assisted in karaoke events here at the library. 3. Election of Officers.Since the current offices held by the Board were filled by a vacancy for only a partial term in May of 2009, and after discussion with the City Attorney, it was decided City of Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees Regular Meeting Page 4 that a current officer may serve an additional term to fulfill the 1 year requirements as stated in the By -Laws. Theresa Nesser nominated Everett Deidiker for the office of President. Jon Lokensgard seconded the nomination.Everett Deidiker accepted the nomination. A vote was taken and passed unanimously. Rhonda Jackson nominated Theresa Nesser for the office of Vice -President. Everett Deidiker seconded the nomination.Theresa Nesser accepted the nomination.A vote was taken and passed. Rhonda Jackson nominated Loretta Nielsen for office of Secretary.Jon Lokensgard seconded the nomination. Loretta Nielsen accepted the nomination.A vote was taken and passed unanimously. J. Requests for future agenda items.Discussion and possible modification of By -Laws Article IV - Officers, paragraph #1. Discussion and possible vote on a board member who misses 3 or more meetings.
