Idaho Road Regular Meeting February 11, 2010 A regular meeting of The Board of Trustees of Apache Junction Public Library was held February 11, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as prescribed by law. With the President absent, Vice President Theresa Nesser conducted the meeting. Roll Call Present Marie DePalma Dr. Jon Lokensgard Robert Mayo Theresa Nesser Loretta Nielsen Janice Stenglein Absent Rhonda Jackson Staff: Spencer Paden, Library Manager Sancie Lee -Brown, Administrative Assistant C. Acceptance of Agenda: D. Acceptance of Minutes for December 10, 2009 regular Meeting. The question of accepting the agenda for the February 11, 2010 regular Meeting was placed before the Board. All members present were in favor. The.question of accepting the minutes for the December 10, 2009 regular Meeting was placed before the Board. The minutes were accepted with the following requests: A request to receive the FOL newsletter noted in the Friends of the Library Report was made by Jon Lokensgard. A capitalization error was noted and corrected in the word "Christmas" by Jon City of Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees Regular Meeting Page 2 E. Call to the Public: F. Spencer Paden discussed the deployment of a grant for MP3 players.The grant, entitled "MP3ME" will allow patrons to check out MP3 players for a two week time period and download materials to the players. In addition we recently received a $750.00 donation from the Friends of the Library for a new display called "A New Look At The Classics."Theresa Nesser requested statistics and age groups for those checking out the classics. The library will be receiving approximately $60,000 to purchase 50 computers as part of a larger statewide grant awarded to the Arizona State Library under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.This was made possible by the strong partnership between our library and the Pinal County Library District, which agreed to put up the required matching funds for the grant request. In the category we were in, 2200 applications were submitted, 360 in the Public Computing Centers category, City of Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees Regular Meeting Page 3 The odds were about 3% and we made it. Also discussed was George Hoffman's "Budget Comments for February 2 nd "message to the City Council. The City Manager asked to receive direction on the continuation of the two -tenths of a cent sales tax. Spencer discussed the monthly report and noted that the "one year ago" comparisons will be removed from the report for now because we have switched to new software called Polaris.When we have one full year count using Polaris we will renew the annual comparisons on the monthly report.We have also added as a trial "new computer cards" to the monthly report and will check future statistics in this category. H. Old Business: None. I. New Business: 1. Discussion and possible vote on wording in Bylaws Article IV - Officers. Report.Spencer discussed that the Apache Junction City Code Section 2-7-4, C. Officers states that "No officer shall serve in the same capacity for more than one consecutive year."Some members would like attorney Joel Stern to City of Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees Regular Meeting Page 4 J. 2. Meet library board members. 3. Discussion and possible action by the board on the topic of members who miss 3 or more meetings. 4. Nomination and vote for President to fill office vacated by resigning Board Member. Requests for future agenda items. attend the next meeting and clarify this statement. Each attendee provided a brief personal and/or professional history of themselves to the group. Loretta Nielsen expressed her concern regarding members who miss 3 meetings or more. She and some other members wanted to make sure that board members are encouraged to attend meetings regularly. Jon Lokensgard made a motion to nominate Theresa Nesser as President to the Library Board.Janice Stenglein seconded the motion.Theresa accepted the nomination.All members present were in favor.
