March 8, 2012
A. Call to Order
A regular meeting of The Board of Trustees of Apache
Junction Public Library was held March 8, 2012, at 6:30
p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as
prescribed by law.

C. Acceptance of Agenda:
D. Acceptance of Minutes for
February 9, 2012 Regular
Meeting.
The question of accepting the
agenda for the March 8, 2012,
regular Meeting was placed
before the Board. Robert Mayo
made a motion to accept the
agenda with the request to
change the date on item D
from 2011 to 2012. Theresa
Nesser seconded the motion.
All members present were in
favor.
The question of accepting the
minutes for the February 9,
2012, regular Meeting was
placed before the Board.

E. Call to the Public:

Communications:
G. Librarian's Report:
1. Library's trial use
of new social media,
Pinterest.
2.OpenLibrary membership
and the Arizona State
Library.
3.Volunteer Recognition
Event.
Rhonda Jackson seconded the
motion. All members present
were in favor.
None.
None.
Megan discussed Pinterest.
Pinterest is an online
bulletin board which allows
interaction with the public.
Anything that has an image
associated with it can be
posted here.The library
will utilize it for book
clubs, events etc.
Spencer discussed
OpenLibrary. The Arizona
State Library is now
participating as a member.
OpenLibrary is another
approach to e -books.We were
the first in the state to be
a part of OpenLibrary and now
it is being recommended to
other libraries in the state
as well.
There were 35 people in
attendance at the event.
Among attendees were Dr. Jon
Lokensgard and our City
Manager, George Hoffman.
There were 14 volunteers who
gave more than 100 hours of
service.They were awarded

4. Bluray collection.
H. Old Business

with commemorative book
plates and other various
prizes.Many attendees
commented on how much fun
they had at the event.
We will be adding Bluray
to the library collection for
circulation.This
format has already been
added to the media bank.
Discussion and possible
vote on Library Board
meeting time change.This item was requested to be
tabled to the next meeting
since some Board members were
not present.

1. Meet Library staff

VIP's.
2. Paving a better
future.
Meet Kendra Porter.Kendra
started as a volunteer for
the library.She volunteered
for 6 years, was a TAB member
and president of TAB for 2
years.Currently, Kendra is
working as part of the First
Things First Grant which
provides early literacy to
children throughout Arizona.
Paving a better future is an
idea created to make families
aware of what resources are
available to them in their
community.This is something
that is in the works.
Nothing has been completed as
yet and updates will be
provided as things progress.

3. Library Café.Spencer discussed that the
City had been approached by
someone who was interested in
doing some type of café
service at the Library.A
Request for Proposal is
currently being put together.
J. Requests for future agenda
Items.A Board member would like to
discuss reviewing again the
possibility of changing the
time of the Board meetings
from 6:30 to 6:00pm.
Paving a better future.
K. Adjournment:Meeting adjourned at
7:23 p.m.
President
