June 14, 2012
A. Call to Order
A regular meeting of The Board of Trustees of Apache
Junction Public Library was held June 14, 2012, at 6:35
p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as
prescribed by law. With the President absent, Vice
President Loretta Nielsen conducted the meeting.

C. Acceptance of Agenda:
D. Acceptance of Minutes for
April 12, 2012 Regular
Meeting.
The question of accepting the
agenda for the June 14, 2012,
regular Meeting was placed
before the Board. Rhonda
Jackson made a motion to
accept the agenda. Theresa
Nesser seconded the motion.
All members present were in
favor.

E. Call to the Public:

Communications:
G. Librarian's Report:
All members present were in
favor.
None.
None.
1.Spencer updated the Board
on grants.The BTOP II grant
will provide 4 desktop
computers along with laser
printers and office software
in addition to a mobile lab
of 11 laptops, storage for
laptops and a part-time
person.
We are also in our third year
in a row to receive the LSTA
grant that began as the JOBS
Grant. This grant is called
"TLC (Teaching Literacy
during Childcare) For those
in Need" and has been
approved in the amount of
$64,677.
2. Spencer reported that the
budget is very similar to the
previous year's budget as we
continue to try to keep
spending to a minimum.
3.Summer Reading has
started and runs from May 29th
to July 28th.We have already
held some great events
including Arizona
Diamondbacks Organist Bobby
Freeman and Mascot Baxter.
Magician, Craig Davis
presented an awesome show
with 167 in attendance.
Summer Reading programs are
offered to children, teens

and adults and offer great
prizes for reading including
books, movie tickets and
more.

1. Meet Library staff
Member(s) or Library
VIP's.
2. Security update.
3. Teen Advisory Board
update.
1. Meet TJ Watkins.TJ works
as Library Security and has
been with the City since 1984
where he worked as a Police
Officer for 23 years before
transitioning to the Library.
TJ is also the Library Safety
Officer in addition to
working with the Park Rangers
and Police Department.TJ is
the main line in enforcing
policy and behavior within
the library.
A discussion regarding
library security was led by
TJ, addressing Board member's
questions regarding the
enforcement of rules and
regulations.Spencer
discussed the importance of
library security measures
implemented and the need for
a security person and
equipment in the library.
Karen Rauls discussed updates
on TAB (Teen Advisory Board).
Currently there are 17 TAB
members in addition to 10 new
teen volunteers for the
summer.There have been lots
of great programs including a

Celebrity Murder Mystery and
a live Candy Land board game
where TAB members were
characters in the game. Other
events included a costume
party, charades, and a
stuffed animal sleepover in
which children could leave
their stuffed animal
overnight and pictures were
taken all over the library
with all the stuffed animals
participating.
