November 8, 2012
A. Call to Order
A regular meeting of The Board of Trustees of Apache
Junction Public Library was held November 8, 2012, at 6:32
p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as
prescribed by law. With the President absent, Vice
President Loretta Nielsen conducted the meeting and with
the Secretary absent, Vice President Loretta Nielsen
appointed Rhonda Jackson as acting secretary.

C. Acceptance of Agenda:The question of accepting the
agenda for the November 8,
2012, regular Meeting was
placed before the Board.
Loretta Nielsen made a motion
to move item I. 3, Meet
Library staff member(s) or
Library VIP's to right after
item D. Acceptance of the
Minutes. Rhonda Jackson
seconded the motion. All
members present were in
favor.

October 11, 2012 Regular
Meeting.

3.Meet Library staff
member(s) or Library
VIP's.
The question of accepting the
minutes for the October 11,
2012, regular Meeting was
placed before the Board. Todd
Cousins made a motion to
accept the minutes. Drew
Rappleye seconded the motion.
All members present were in
favor.
Meet Crystal Ramirez.
Crystal has a degree in
elementary education, loves
kids and has 3 of her own.
Crystal has been with the Fun
Van since September of 2011
and really enjoys traveling
and working with the children
and parents.
Meet Felicia Smith. Felicia
has been part of the Fun Van
team for almost 2 years.
Felicia has a degree in early
childhood education and
previously worked with Head
Start, Montessori schools and
special education students.
She also enjoys the
opportunity to work and
interact with the kids and
parents.
Meet Gordon Brown. Gordon has
been working in early
childhood development for the
past 10 years. He previously
worked with Arizona State
University in the child
development lab for 8 years.

G. Librarian's Report:
Gordon has also worked for
Head Start and for First
Things First with the PBS
channel 8 Parent Education
Literacy workshops.He found
out about the Fun Van
combining parent education
and preschool education and
really likes working here.
None.
Spencer asked Loretta Nielson
to read a Citizen's letter
written to the Apache
Junction - Gold Canyon News
called "Death of the Printed
Word" to the Board.Spencer
then read a response to that
letter written by Library
Board member, Theresa Nesser.
In Ms. Nesser's letter she
wrote about what the library
has to offer the public and
benefits of utilizing the
Library. She encouraged the
writer of the article, Ms.
Evelyn Stringham to visit the
library.
There were no questions
regarding the monthly report.
Megan Smith brought in an
interactive display she
designed with the help of
Stephanie Greene and Trish
Pelletier.This display was
created for the 2012 AzLA
"Beyond the Box" conference.
Trish will be giving a
presentation utilizing the
poster. Tracie spoke briefly
on the LINKS (Library
Intern's New Keys to Success)

Grant which was based on the
JOBS Training Center. The
LINKS Grant provides interns
an opportunity to work in a
library setting and provides
them with customer service
training. Another important
event coming in February is
called "Connect2Compete.-
This program will provide
free digital literacy
training, discounted high
speed internet at $10.00 a
month and low cost computers
at $150.00. This program is
mostly for people who qualify
for school lunches.Tracie
talked about events held in
October including the teen
pumpkin decorating
competition. There was a
Tricky Treat scavenger
hunt with over 100 families
and their children in the
Library. A "Halloween at
Hogwarts" program took place
in the afternoon. This
program put on by Stephanie
Greene included potions,
quill pens, butter beer,
chocolate frogs and crafts.
Linda Konopitski also
contributed stuffed animals
for giveaways. Upcoming
events for November include
the teen game event entitled
"Michael Jackson Wii" on
November 20th in addition to
AASK orientation (adoption
for special kids). Parents in
this area are invited to come
in and learn about children
in this area. There have been
approximately 5 to 12
families come in on a regular
basis to learn about foster

Board member.

Tales with Alana and Superman
continue to be a success in
the children's cozy books
area.

Welcome Todd Cousins. Todd
and his family moved here
from California a little over
a year ago.Todd is married
with 2 children ages 3 and 6.
He works for an HR company
and is also on the Board of
Directors for Excalibur
Charter school.
Loretta Nielsen made a motion
to nominate Drew Rappleye for
Vice -President. Rhonda
Jackson seconded the motion.
All members present were in
favor. Drew Rappleye made a
motion to nominate Loretta
Nielsen for President. Todd
Cousins seconded the motion.
All members present were in
favor. Loretta Nielsen made a
motion to nominate Todd
Cousins for Secretary.All
members present were in
favor.
