Call to Order A regular meeting of The Board of Trustees of Apache Junction Public Library was held April 10, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as prescribed by law. B. Roll Call Present Theresa Nesser Todd Cousins Robert Mayo Loretta Nielsen Drew Rappleye Absent Rhonda Jackson Randy Mullen Staff: Spencer Paden, Library Director Sancie Lee -Brown, Administrative Assistant C. Acceptance of Agenda: D. Acceptance of Minutes for January 10, 2013 Regular Meeting. The question of accepting the agenda for the April 11, 2013, regular Meeting was placed before the Board. Theresa Nesser made a motion to accept the agenda with a change to move Item 14 and Ii right after Item E. Todd Cousins seconded the motion. All members present were in favor. The question of accepting the minutes for the January 10, 2013 regular Meeting was placed before the Board. Robert Mayo made a motion to accept the minutes. Friends of the Library Board update. 1. Meet Library staff member(s)or Library VIP's. Elaine Georgeou has been part of the Friends of the Library for 4 years.The bookstore is going through a reorganization process currently. Paperbacks are now the best sellers along with Christian Fiction. New signage has been created to make it easier to find genres and hardback fiction is on sale.Plans are in the works to put kids' books on sale for half price when summer reading begins in late May. Dedication tiles displayed along the walkway of the main entrance can still be purchased through the Friends. Meet Cheryl Perez. Cheryl is the JOBS Training Coordinator for the JOBS Training Center grant. As part of the grant, Cheryl offers GED courses, resume help, job application assistance and a variety of computer classes. F. Correspondence and Communications:None. City of Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees Regular Meeting Page 3 G. Librarian's Report:There were no questions regarding the monthly reports. Spencer discussed Zinio. Zinio is a new database paid for by the State Library. They advertise that they are the World's Largest Digital Magazine Service. Budget status.Spencer will have his first budget meeting next week with finance. FINRA grant.Spencer requested and was granted an extension through July 1, 2013. He will be partnering with KAET and putting together some financial literacy program videos. Public Art.The public art is now being displayed in the library.Currently there are 25 pieces available for viewing along with the contact information for the artist. First Things First grant. Tracie Curtis, Spencer and staff are currently working on continuing this grant. This grant is for community based early literacy and will help enhance parents reading to their kids. H. Old Business None. City of Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees Regular Meeting Page 4 I. New Business 2.Discussion on sponsorship at the Library. 3. Teen Advisory Board update. Current sponsorships include Friends of the Library and Pinal County.We have a new City representative who is working on getting additional sponsorships.So far we have received 700 passes to Castles & Coasters in Phoenix for summer reading.We look forward to more sponsorships as time progresses. Tuesday, April 16 the Teen Advisory Board will host a Teen Murder Mystery event designed by two of its members. Upcoming is the teen summer reading program named "Beneath the Surface." Prize funding comes mainly from the Friends of the Library but we are also seeking funding from area businesses. Special events will be June 18th and include a professional henna tattoo artist who will explain the history and culture of this ancient art.Tuesday, July 23, Teen water games will be held in the family Courtyard. Currently we have 18 members of TAB and this year 9 of them are graduating. We are also currently recruiting teen volunteers for the library.
