May 9, 2013
A. Call to Order
A regular meeting of The Board of Trustees of Apache
Junction Public Library was held May 9, 2013, at 6:30 p.m.
at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as
prescribed by law. With the President absent, Vice
President Drew Rappleye conducted the meeting.

C. Acceptance of Agenda:
D. Acceptance of Minutes for
April 11, 2013 Regular
Meeting.
The question of accepting the
agenda for the May 9, 2013,
regular Meeting was placed
before the Board. Todd
Cousins made a motion to
accept the agenda. Drew
Rappleye seconded the motion.
All members present were in
favor.

members present were in
favor.
None.
Spencer provided to the Board
thank you letters from TAB
members to Karen Rauls,
Circulation Supervisor.
There were no questions
regarding the monthly
reports.
Spencer discussed Freegal.
Freegal is a downloadable
music website that we hope
Final County will be
purchasing. Also discussed
was a product called Hoopla.
Hoopla is a database of
multimedia made available for
borrowing online.
Budget status.Spencer
stated that the budget
meeting with Finance was held
and no changes were made at
this point. The budget was
flat again this year.
Grants.Spencer requested
and was granted an extension
through July 1, 2013 for the
FINRA grant. The Library will
be partnering with KAET and
putting together some
financial literacy program
videos. The SGIA grant, made
possible through Final County
will probably be used to
purchase tablets to loan to
the public.In addition,
Final County has agreed to

purchase a public address
system for the library.
Public Art.The public art
is now being displayed in the
library.Currently there are
25 pieces available for
viewing along with the
contact information for the
artist.
First Things First grant.
This grant is currently being
reviewed by First Things
First.
The latest grant called
Library PACS "Public Access
Creation Stations," has been
submitted.This grant was
developed from the original
JOBS grant and we are waiting
for final approval on a
partial award.
Tracie Curtis reviewed the
Adult/Teen/Children's
Programs over the past month.
Most recently was our Star
Wars event "May the 4th be
with you." The library had
over 900 patrons come to the
program. Patrons were able to
meet and talk to their
favorite Star Wars characters
in full costume. It was the
most popular event so far
this year.New employee,
Rebecca Hawkins will start
next week with the Fun Van.

Meet Virginia Vanderwall.
Gin has been with the Library
for 3 years.She first
started as a volunteer on
August 20, 2010.Currently
Gin is a part-time Library
Page working at the call
center and service desk as
well as shelving books.
Todd Cousins made a motion to
set the special meeting date
of the Library Board on June
27, 2013, at 6:30 p.m.
Theresa Nesser seconded the
motion. All members present
were in favor. There will be
no Library Board meeting in
July.
