Call to Order A regular meeting of The Board of Trustees of Apache Junction Public Library was held May 8, 2014, at 6:30 p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as prescribed by law. President Randy Mullen appointed Todd Cousins as acting secretary. B. Roll Call Present Todd Cousins Robert Mayo Randy Mullen Loretta Nielsen Absent Don Breiland Rhonda Jackson Theresa Nesser Staff: Spencer Paden, Library Director Sancie Lee -Brown, Administrative Assistant C. Acceptance of Agenda: D. Acceptance of Minutes for February 13, 2014 Regular Meeting. The question of accepting the agenda for the May 8, 2014, regular Meeting was placed before the Board. Loretta Nielsen made a motion to accept the agenda. Robert Mayo seconded the motion. All members present were in favor. The question of accepting the minutes for the February 13, 201 regular Meeting was placed before the Board. Todd Cousins made a motion to accept the minutes. Loretta Nielsen seconded the motion. Grants update All members present were in favor. None. None. There were no questions regarding the monthly reports. Trade Curtis discussed the library events that have taken place in April and notified the Board of events to come for May. Our biggest summer event is the Summer Reading Program to commence on May 27th.Spencer also handed out a sample of a survey that Pinal County is conducting. Tentative approval of the budget is complete. Spencer discussed the Library's existing grants. Currently, we have the Public Access Creation Station (PACS) grant which is funded by the State Library through the Library Services and Technology Act. The goal of this grant is to create a makerspace within the Apache Junction Public Library leveraging the use of the Library's existing Job Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) Training Center and the Library's Experience Theater. This will allow patrons to create music, video, artwork, publish ebooks, produce models and City of Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees Regular Meeting Page 3 H. Old Business 1. Freegal and Hoopla Demonstrations I. New Business 1. Meet Library staff member(s)or Library VIP's. prototypes for a small business, provide tools for lifelong learning, increase their training and marketability in the job market and utilize their artistic and technological skills. This grant ends in August but we are hoping to continue classes with the help of existing staff and patron assistance. We also have the First Things First (Fun Van) grant which is in its fourth year.The biggest change to this grant is the transferring of grant staff to city employees. One of the reasons this change was made was so that benefits could be provided to these employees. John Feldt provided a demonstration on Freegal and Hoopla.Freegal allows library users to download 5 free songs on a monthly basis. Hoopla allows library users to borrow video and music with their library card. Robert Mayo made a motion to set the special meeting date of the Library Board on June 26, 2014, at 6:30 p.m. Loretta Nielsen seconded the motion.All members present were in favor. Reminder of Special meeting date and time. Meeting adjourned at 7:37 p.m.
