Call to Order A regular meeting of The Board of Trustees of Apache Junction Public Library was held October 13, 2016, at 6:40 p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as prescribed by law. B. Roll Call Present Judy Borey Chester Burgess Robert Mayo Theresa Nesser Absent Rhonda Jackson Staff: Spencer Paden, Library Director Sancie Lee -Brown, Administrative Assistant C. Acceptance of Agenda: D. Acceptance of Minutes for April 14, 2016 Regular Meeting and June 30, 2016 Special Meeting. The question of accepting the agenda for the October 13, 2016, regular Meeting was placed before the Board. Tess Nesser made a motion to accept the agenda Judy Borey seconded the motion. All members present were in favor. The question of accepting the minutes for the April 14, 2016 Regular Meeting and the June 30, 2016 Special Meeting was placed before the Board. Correspondence and Communications: G. Librarian's Report: members present were in favor. None. Spencer notified the Board that Rhonda Jackson had resigned as of October 1, 2016. Willie Howard and Samuel Graves have been appointed to the Board and their terms will begin in November. Spencer provided an opportunity to review the monthly reports. He also noted that the new "mobile friendly" website design is available online to view. Spencer noted that the City budget and Home Rule both passed. Over the summer 3 staff members, Pam Standhart, Stephanie Greene and Rachelle Thoman in the youth department received scholarships to attend an Early Childhood Summit. After the event they used •what they had learned by providing a training session for staff. In addition, we recently purchased an Oculus Rift and a Gear VR (virtual reality headset). A velcro wall for educational activities is a new addition in the youth area. Coming soon will be new vending machines to include a snack and drink machine. We also will be requesting a washer and dryer combo unit to clean book bags, costumes, toys City of Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees Regular Meeting Page 3 H. Old Business I. New Business 1. Support for a plan modifying an existing area in the North wing of the library. 2. Meet Library staff Member(s) or Library VIP's. J. Request for future agenda items. etc.Tracie Curtis reviewed past and current events. None. Spencer presented information on a plan to modify an existing area in the North wing of the Library. A motion was made by Judy Borey to support the plan.Chester Burgess seconded the motion. A roll call vote found all members in favor. Meet Jelissa Gray. Jelissa is an intern working through ASU. She is majoring in social work with a minor in educational studies. She has recently been doing a program entitled Music with Jelissa. It includes nursery rhymes and instruments. In November she will be doing another program called Navajo with Jelissa. Tour of the north wing area modification. Update on the Velcro wall.
