Call to Order President Krause called the meeting to order at 6:30pm. With the secretary absent, Boardmember Borey was appointed as acting secretary. B. Roll Call Present: 5- Boardmember Borey Boardmember Walters Boardmember Krause Boardmember Hall Boardmember Kruser Absent: 2- Boardmember Wine Boardmember Rajski C. Call to the Public None. F. Correspondence and Communications None. G. Librarian's Report Director Harrison reviewed the monthly report for July through September and introduced staff member Meg Robles. Meg started as a library page and was promoted in June to senior library assistant. Meg leads a variety of programs including storytime and toddlerobics. She recently did a learning event on caterpillars turning into butterflies. Children were able to come in and see City of Apache Junction,Arizona page 1 Library Board Meeting Minutes October 13,2022 them grow through stages and a release event was held close to the park. Meg is also working on reaching out to homeschoolers and recently finished the young storytellers club, a 6 week long course on what it takes to write a story. Director Harrison spoke about some other programs that were held in September. The retrofit of our bookmobile is underway and will be done in a couple of weeks. The audio/visual studio is now open where patrons can access a variety of equipment including an iMac computer, green screen, 4k cameras, box lights, microphones and more. H. Old Business 1. 22-643 Discussion and possible vote on updates to library policies and procedures. This Agenda was approved Yes 5- Boardmember Borey, Boardmember Walters, Boardmember Krause, Boardmember Hall, and Boardmember Kruser No 0 Absent 2- Boardmember Wine, and Boardmember Rajski Director Harrison discussed recommended changes from the previous meeting. The wording in item B of the materials selection policy will reference and be identified in the Circulation policy. In addition, the Freedom to Read statement as well as the Library Bill of Rights has been added as appendices to the materials selection policy. The American Library Association recommends these documents be included in the selection policy as affirmation. I. New Business 1. 22-644 Discussion and possible vote on amending the Library Board of Trustees By-Laws, Article II - Meetings. Staff will discuss a possible change to the current wording "The board shall establish a regular meeting day and time once a month for meetings related to regular business purposes." The change would replace the words 'once a month"with the words 'on an as-needed basis." Yes 5- Boardmember Borey, Boardmember Walters, Boardmember Krause, Boardmember Hall, and Boardmember Kruser No 0 Absent 2- Boardmember Wine, and Boardmember Rajski In order to make our by-laws more accurate and reflective of our current practices, Director Harrison has proposed to change the wording 'once a month"with the wording "on an as needed basis"within the document. 2. 22-645 Presentation, discussion and possible vote on increasing the borrowing limit from 20 to 30 physical items per library card. Yes 5- Boardmember Borey, Boardmember Walters, Boardmember Krause, Boardmember Hall, and Boardmember Kruser No 0 Absent 2- Boardmember Wine, and Boardmember Rajski Director Harrison gathered data from 20 other Arizona libraries. The goal is to remove barriers City of Apache Junction,Arizona Page 2 Library Board Meeting Minutes October 13, 2022 to materials and make it easier for our customers to get access to the materials they want. She used data on libraries closest to our circulation size and provided an average borrowing limit based on that group. The average borrowing limit was 30. The goal to change the borrowing limit if approved would be January 3, 2023. J. Requests for Future Agenda Items Update on the goals, strategies and tactics of the Library's 3 year Strategic Plan. K.
