Programming Librarian and Outreach Supervisor, Megan Carbiener spoke about adult services
and outreach events held over the past couple of months. Patrons have requested more
evening and Saturday programs and that has been taken into consideration as the library staff
prepare for more adult programming.
The mobile library has seen great progress and has been filled with dvds, adult-fiction,
non-fiction, children's and young adult books. A route is being established and will begin in early
March. Bookmobile week will be the first full week of each month, making the rounds at each
location consistently. Promotions will take place on social media, the library website and through
posted signs. Visiting patrons will receive information on upcoming dates in their area. The
bookmobile route will be local in Apache Junction for now. Megan shared some outreach
statistics for the mobile library. There were nine visits in 2020. Visits doubled in 2021 and
increased again in 2022.
The library received a $25,000 donation from the Glenn Perkins Educational Foundation. New
public computers will be purchased with these funds. Director Harrison provided an update on
the Strategic Plan. The first goal/strategy was to develop and implement instructional computer,
digital device and creation zone makerspace programs for the community. Back in January we
started offering a job assistance class twice a month. This is a walk-in program. In addition, the
computer lab assistants will be teaching classes on google search, email, internet basics, basic
smart phone photography and editing and how to use our digital library apps.
Apache Junction Unified School District and the library made an agreement to partner and offer
virtual student library cards for all students. Students can now use their student ID to access all
electronic databases and digital services, or come to the library and check out up to 3 books.
Director Harrison provided a shelving update for the north wing. A vendor has been selected.
More information will be forthcoming. The Friends of the Library will be having a book sale on
February 22-27. This sale is a buy one, get one free sale to make room for all the newer
materials received. The sale will be all week during regular library hours and is a cash only sale.

I. New Business
1. 23-047 Discussion and update on strategies to promote library services.
Director Harrison reviewed the marketing and advertising methods the library currently uses in
addition to advertising that has been tried with unknown results. New ideas were also discussed
such as working with other schools that use ClassDojo, posting event calendars in the library
restroom stalls and looking into who provides upcoming events by zip code on NextDoor.
Boardmember Barker suggested that we revisit how these strategies are doing in six months.
